Saturday the 18th October.- Living Life OutLoud held a Weightloss and Healthy Snacks Wholefood Workshop in Budds Beach.

My workshops are designed to give you more. Not take options away. When we take options away- the brain translates that to a ‘diet’ and immediately starts to crave the very things you a trying to avoid. Instead of ‘avoiding ‘ or ‘missing out’ on anything in life, I help train your mind to replace ingredients as opposed to ‘not being allowed’ things. I train you to live with an abundant mentality as opposed to a ‘poverty or lack’ mentality.

Wholefoood is delicious. It is made from foods that are high in nutrients, and often low in calories. The food we get from premade, pre-packaged, fast food is high in calories and low in nutrients– which  explains why people can eat an entire pizza and still be hungry. If the food we eat is nutrient dead, the body and the brain will make you continue to seek out nutrientsno matter how many calories you consumeWholefoods provide both. Wholefoods provide nutrient dense food- so the body feels full, and IS full, and the brain is therefore also fed. It is very hard to overeat when you eat wholefood. The body and brain just will not allow it.

In my workshops I explain how to ‘lose weight’ without dieting, and without pills, potions and lotions. I give you the tools to empower you. As you learn new ingredients one at a time, and how they might benefit you- how to use them and what to replace dead foods with.. the mystery is lifted from healthy eating, and what ‘healthy eating ‘actually is!!!

There is no SuperFood Snobbery in my Workshops. There are no seminar style classes. All questions are welcomed. You sit and dine once you make your foods, and you take the recipes with you.

The idea for Wholefood Workshops was borne from people asking me about the food I eat, how to eat, how to lose weight. How to be healthy. The workshops  have proven a success, and fun for all who have jumped on board! Including me! They are by no means extensive, but they are an introduction for you to be able to take away one or two concepts and implement them into your lifestyles. THAT is how TRUE change takes place. Baby step, by baby step. THAT is how a baby learns to walk.. why is health any different. I grow each day, and I hope you do to.

Choose to empower yourself with knowledge, and then apply it.

How about instead of waiting to get sick and then relying for the rest of your life on pharmaceutical drugs that possibly, maybe, could (by a very very very long shot fix the issue you present with- or bandaid it) but also cause as a knock-on effect, a series of other issues, often life-threatening… instead of falling into that trap…. choose to remove yourself from the matrix and live in PREVENTATIVE HEALTH. NEVER get sick because your immune system is so kickass strong, your mind is alert and awake… bugs tremble when you approach! Live a Life OutLoud and Life a Life Like Mine! Bugs die from the shadow I cast. I am so strong in Mind, Body and Spirit.

Iced Tropicana Delight

Ohhh I can hear the bongo drums.. hips are starting to wiggle (lol) .. the sun is shining… the water calls.. ah yes, the sweet sound of Summer approaching.

My favourite time of the year is NOW. Spring! Flowers bloom and there is a sense of starting over once again. A general upbeat tempo in the air, no one can put their finger on it but for me, it happens every Sept and Oct. OK mostly – there have  been a couple of off years, but we choose not focus on them. Brilliant months!!


I’m sharing with you a fabulous smoothie I created the other night. I had a mother of a sweet tooth and for the life of me, I was not leaving the kitchen! How funny.. creating and playing. It gives me a sense of freedom and respite as I trial new ideas in there. Curbs that hankering as I make something delicious from my Wholefoods Kitchen.  

My, my..  hasn’t the world changed for me… as I hope it changes for you too. A life remaining the same is rather a dull life and far too ordinary.

When a sweet tooth for me hits, very rarely am I off to buy rubbish from the shops. But it can happen. I prefer..and so does Craig, that I head to the Creative Lounge: My Kitchen and start playing in there!

Healthy Sweet Treats that won’t send your, or my blood sugars into a rage- and far surpass the flavours available from cheap, poisonous ingredients…out there… ewwww

Tropical Delight

A perfect and easy smoothie for any time, any day and is sure to curb that sugar craving.. but you probably don’t get those.. maybe it is just me… lol.

I have balanced the sugars from the fruits with avocado and activated nuts.. which I then stir fried in coconut oil and coconut nectar… you know I bat for most sides when it comes to food- if you are a raw foodist- just don’t cook the nuts- boom. Happy days  :)

Cashews are my nut of choice here- they produce a creamy texture- which is why they are used in so many raw food recipes.

Avocados are used in smoothies 90% of the time in my Wholefood Kitchen as they also create a delicious creamy texture, balance out sugars, and help with fatloss.

Using the nuts and avocado you are sure to enjoy a filling and delicious smoothie- beyond all your wildest dreams! These are the ‘secrets’ behind all those amazing smoothies out there.. now you know.. no excuses at home! Also a great way to sneak Avocado into picky kids foods. – They get a treat they think is icecream- you have a giggle and enjoy the balanced behaviour after one of these as opposed to the anti freeze, refined sugar laden icecream sold for kids….

  •  100 ml Almond Mylk- or any non dairy milk you like. Coconut milk is yum. If you want my recipe for nut mylk, click HERE.
  • 1 banana- frozen to create more ice-cream effect- but it can be fresh.
  • ¼ – ½ cup cashews- activated (soak them for a minimum of 30 mins max 6 hours = activated)
  • ¼ to ½ avocado. I usually use ½ – I love them.
  • Organic Vanilla. You decide on how many drops.
  • Coconut Nectar from Purely Natural– oh my Lord I love this stuff.  I added quite a bit this evening- I wanted that sweetness without the guilt.
  • Ice- loads to create your ice-cream thickness

Blend baby blend!!

Pour into a wine glass! That’s what they are good for these days in my house!!

Top with cashews – stir-fried in coconut oil and coconut nectar if you really want to go wild, sweet cacao nibs – again from Purely Natural (this website is very addictive 😉 ), I had some dried blueberries so added those and then…. Drizzled some more coconut nectar.

Cinnamon, Coconut and Berry Balls

These are delicious! Easy to create and very easy to eat! Perfect for after a workout; a great way to get kids to eat clean healthy nutritious snacks; or a morning snack! Packed with nutrients and energy with no added sugar but deliciously sweet. High in protein. Your body will love you for them, and so will your palate!

What you need:

  • 3/4 Cup L.S.A
  • 3/4 Cup coconut flakes
  • 1 Cup of dried berries- I like blueberries- you can you any fruit you like!
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • Sweeten with rice bran syrup – available from the supermarket in the health section.
  • Filtered water
  • More L.S.A to cover your balls in.

How to Make It Work:

  • In a bowl combine all dry ingredients, and mix well.
  • I use water to bind my mixture, so pour small amounts in turning it into a sticky mess. Here is where you add sweetener if you like a sweeter taste.

(Some people use tahini to as the binding agent as opposed to water. I choose not to use tahini for two reasons – 1. I find the taste overpowers the ingredients. 2. I don’t digest tahini well, nor do I like the flavour!)

So there are a couple of options for you as a binding agent.

  • Ensure the mixture is sticky and wet. If you add too much water just pop more dry ingredients in to make it workable. You want to be able to form solid balls with your hands.
  • Roll in L.S.A. to complete then leave to set in the fridge for 5 hours.
  • They will keep for up to two weeks- but not likely as they will be eaten in that time frame!

Green and Cleansing Breakfast-In-A-Glass

Alkalising, Vegan, 100% Natural, Delicious, Clean Eating, Gluten Free, Sugar Free Breakfast In A Glass. Alkalise.

Want to get it right but still don’t think you can make the time? Well Ok then- this baby may help you get on your way to a more alkaline, cleansed state of being! Whipped up in a jiffy and can be eaten on the run if you insist. Some days it just cant be helped so arm yourself with healthy options and you can still maintain balanced blood sugars, stay energised and stay alert. Better options and better choices make life that much easier, and that much more fun!

Your choice always!

What you need:

  • 1/2 grapefruit, lemon and apple. (You can leave the grapefruit if you don’t like a tart taste)
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 cup lettuce
  • Fresh mint or coriander
  • 3 teaspoons chia
  • 2 Tablespoons activated organics linseeds
  • 1/2 Cup coconut water
  • 2 Tablespoons of barley grass (back this off if you are only starting on the organic powdered greens to 1 teaspoon, slowly build up)
  • As much ginger as you like. It is great for the stomach and digestion, as are all these ingredients!
  • Ice.
  • Add one scoop of plain unflavoured protein powder (I use pea protein, if at all) to slow absorption and keep hunger at bay for longer.

How To Make It Work: Breakfast IN A Glass

Very simple! Throw it all into your food processor. I have a very strong blender called a VitaMix. Blend until combined. If you would like it more viscous, add more coconut water or filtered water.

Sip this slowly over a period of time, don’t rush it as it is very filling. As these ingredients are easily absorbable, live and digestible you are likely to be hungry within one to two hours. Make sure you have prepared for the day, but I am sure you do that every day :)

This is the perfect breakfast as it contains Omega 3’s, live foods, and clean protein. If breakfast , lunch and dinner contain these three components, expect your body to respond by keeping balanced energy levels throughout the day, balancing blood sugars, keep hunger at bay, destroy ”cravings”, feel more in control of what foods to eat, lose body fat over time. If the body is fed live, highly nutritional wholefoods, it can more easily fight dis-ease and function as it  was designed to function.

Try it on for size.. perhaps your  (fat) size may diminish as a ‘side’ effect 😉 By feeding the body the right ingredients, it is possible to turn it into a fat burning machine, as opposed to a fat storing machine. Our bodies are usually doing on or the other. I know what I intend for mine to be doing most of the time. What about you?

Sugar Free Chocolate Protein Truffles

Sweets, Sweets and more Sweets. What is it about the taste of something sweet we all love once in a while.. or perhaps a little too often?!

Is it the fact we know we ‘should’ not be eating this decadent sweet stuff. Is this act of naughtiness our defiant child coming forth? Mischievousness on the prowl! 😉

Rules Rule and more Rules! What is that saying- rules are made to be broken?! So you ‘defy’ yourself and feed the sugar craving… “So there!!” -Thus setting in motion hours spent in regret and remorse for giving in to that temptation once again…“how could  I have been so weak?” And on it goes.

No not you? You prefer a more savoury taste? Well, dear friend, you are still feeding the same sugar addiction. Those carbs- they turn to sugar which then turns to fat if you don’t use the energy you just ingested… and quickly. Nothing like a long run after a binge on chocolate, or pizza is there? (She shudders at the very real visualisation she gets if that were ever (not in a million years) to occur- technicolour yawn …)

Soooo how do we get around this sticky sweet situation we ponder? Jump on yet another diet.? “Oh but this one isn’t a fad.. it is a lifestyle choice” (blink blink smile smile) .. whatever. It’s a diet. Get real and honest. A Diet OK? You are looking down the barrel of yet another diet. STOP!!!!!!Please!!!!! Don’t do it!!!!

How about quitting! Quitting those diets! You know they do not work! Consider easing up on yourself. Drop the guilt. Drop the rules. You WILL break those rules if not by the end of the will eventually. A great guideline to live by is the 80/20 rule. This applies across many facets in life.  Stay within these parameters and you can be fairly confident you are ahead of the pack if you live in the 80% health range and choose to stray 20% of the time. Happy days!!

That being said- my sugar free chocolate protein truffles I present to you today can fall in the 80% health range! NOOOOO I hear you cry!! Yes!! It is true!

This is wholefood. This is 100% natural food. Swop it-Dont drop it!!! Ditch the over processed, nutrient empty, calorie laden cheap crap for: Great ingredients, Naturally sweet, Nutrient dense, GOOD calorie filled foods! I make these sugar free chocolate protein truffles delicious and nutritious- you would not even know they were ‘healthy’ by the delectable taste of them if I didn’t tell you they were good for you! Bonus!!

You CAN have your sweet fix without blowing the lifestyle nutrition budget! Enjoy one or two per day as your sweet fix. 

What you need:Creating Truffles

All ingredients are approximate and can be swapped if you don’t like a certain ingredient or simply want to try something else in your cupboard. There are no rules- just take the concept and explore for yourself. Some things work, some don’t but the only way to actually know for yourself, is to experiment and try things out for yourself. I use my friends and family as guinea pigs- they don’t seem to mind at all and have no qualms in  telling me what works and, in no uncertain terms, what doesn’t! If you really want the truth – Give them to your kids, or in my case nieces… -nothing like truth in the form of a sledgehammer. Suck it up adults! Can your ego handle it?! Mine takes a while!!!

  • So.. This recipe works!
  • Use organic where ever you can:

1 Cup Almonds (preferably soaked. Even better activated) / 3/4 C Pitted dates/ 1/2 C almond milk (preferably homemade)/1 Tbspn Raw Cacao powder/ 1 Tbspn Raw Cacao Nibs/ 3 Tblspns Raw Honey (from your local markets) /1/4 C mixed sunflower and pumpkin seeds

How to Make It work:

  • Very simple.
  • Blend almonds, dates and milk in a high powdered blender until smooth. The mixture will be thick with a consistency similar to a cake mixture.
  • Remove smooth mixture and add to a bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients to the cake-like mixture and mix well using a wooden spoon.
  • The mixture needs to be slightly wet. If it is too dry add a tad more milk.
  • Roll into little balls. Wet your hands to avoid the mixture completely sticking to your fingers. Be prepared to get a bit messy. Its ok.
  • Dust your truffles with cacao powder, cocoa powder, dark chocolate flakes, or whatever you have a personal preference for.
  • Freeze – makes around 24 balls and takes 15 minutes to make!!! FAST!! Healthy! Delicious!!!

Tip:Sugar free Chocolate protein truffles

Don’t just refrigerate as the consistency will remain slightly wet. Keep these truffles in the freezer. They will not ‘freeze’- but become firm. YUM.

Delicious. Sugar free. Guilt free.

If you prefer a sweeter taste – use organic honey instead of rice malt syrup. These truffles will no longer be sugar free with honey.

Add different ingredients as you see fit. Enjoy experimenting! Stop buying cheap low quality sweets from the shops! I keep a stock in my freezer/fridge/cupboards filled with healthy sweet and savoury snacks. It helps keep my mind at ease thus avoiding the ‘lack-of’ mentality so many people strangely experience in the West. -As if we will ever run out of cheap nasty poor quality food?!  The shops are lined with the stuff!! -Very few people are actually ‘starving’ in the West so it could be an idea to ditch that redundant saying as well! It creates a lie in your own heads that you end up believing. Realistically you know simply by looking in the mirror, you are a long way off from starving. xx

Control. You are in control of what you buy. You are in control of what you eat. Take charge and make plans to ensure you are NOT missing out on anything in life.
