Coconut, Blueberry and Chia Pot

Coconut, Blueberry and Chia dessert

The sun continues to shine up here on the Gold Coast of Australia! ahh this is the life! So very blessed and in love with Living Life Outloud!! Are you too?! And along with sunshine, comes Spring then inevitably Summer nipping at it’s heels. So as the temperatures continue to increase, I’m focusing even more into weightloss and fatloss geared around wholefoods. “Wholefoods” just meanreal food. You know, the kind God makes as opposed to man.

  • You won’t find wholefood in a plastic container or cardboard box.
  • You wont find wholefood with a nutritional label stuck to the outside of it; God actually knows what he is doing.. as opposed to man.. He doesn’t care for your money :) He cares for your health :)

So the recipes I’m encouraging and enjoying myself even more at this time are clean, delicious, nutritious foods. And I continue to share them with you xx. This one I am sharing with you is a cracker! Anything coconut is a blessing! Coconuts have a plethora of minerals and nutrients our bodies ache for, and are wonderfully hydrating with a very low sugar content. Please buy the fresh young white coconuts shaped like a cone from the supermarkets as opposed to the packet coconut water for sale and very popular at the moment. (Also cheaper than the packaged pasteurised version :))  Buying the real thing is always, hands down, 100% better than buying anything manipulated by man! I realise the cartons say they are 100% natural however, be aware that this packaged coconut water has been pasturised so that it does not go off- Therefore, it is no longer 100% natural.

Also realise that there may be added ingredients to your cartons, but as these added ingredients make up for less than 5% of the total product, they do not need to be listed and can therefore be advertised as 100% natural when, in fact, it is not. Marketing. They want your money. And they get it.

Like the look of my chia dessert? It is good for breakfast, as a healthy snack, or dessert. There is no sugar added and is completely dairy free. I am a firm believer the adult human body does not process dairy well, in fact, I believe pasturised dairy is processed as a toxin by the adult human body. Feel free to google that and start exploring for yourself :) So my  delicious chia snack is made without the stuff I dont like, and loaded with all the goodies my body does like!  All ages will enjoy this and will find it great for the body; delicious on the palette and easy to digest which results is active mind, bodies and souls. Happy days!!

Once again, I make food that is easy, non complicated, delicious, and designed to aid weightloss whilst being scrumptious and suitable for the entire family!

What is in my Coconut, Blueberry and Chia Dessert:

  • water and flesh from a young fresh coconut. Or you can use 400ml canned coconut cream.
  • freeze dried blueberry powder- if you cant find this, use fresh berries instead- fresh is best!
  • 1/4- 1/2 cup black chia seeds
  • a couple of drops of organic vanilla essence
  • stevia or rice bran syrup to taste if you like extra sweetness- try without this first. Always try with no added sweetness- this way you will stop ‘needing’ the sweetness we have been brought up on. Natural is always better. One day you will find you just can’t stomach the sweetness most people think they ‘need’. Take it one step at a time. If adding this type of sweetness is a step forward for you, then this is great. Now, begin to add less and less.. one day, before you know it, you will no longer want to add it :)

How To Make It Work:

Very simple.

Using the flesh of a young coconut and it’s water:

  • Just blend the two together in a blender to make a creamy, viscous ‘cream’. This is coconut cream- without being canned! Pour into a bowl.If you have opted to use fresh berries you can blend them up with the flesh and water, or you can add them whole to your mix. The taste will not be different, but the presentation will be. So this is up to you!
  • Pour cream  into a bowl; add blueberry powder or fresh berries; pour in chia seeds and vanilla.
  • Stir.
  • Allow chia to swell- approximately 20 minutes. The mixture will becoming thicker. Add more chia is you feel you would like a thicker snack. Taste test and add your chosen sweetner if you want it you like a sweeter taste.
  • Pour into serving containers. Allow them to set fully in the fridge for 2 hours or more.

Using coconut cream from a can:

  • Pour cream  into a bowl; add blueberry powder or fresh berries; pour in chia seeds and vanilla.
  • Stir. That’s it pretty much!!
  • Allow chia to swell- approximately 20 minutes. The mixture will becoming thicker. Add more chia is you feel you would like a thicker snack. Taste test and add your chosen sweetener if you want it you like a sweeter taste.
  • Pour into serving containers. Allow them to set fully in the fridge for 2 hours or more.

Click HERE for another of my recipes using the superfood of chia. Chia is also packed with good fats- fats designed to aid weightloss and fatloss. Chia was used by the Mayan’s as a staple part of their diet. Chia seeds are so well rounded in nutrients that, when food was scarce, chia and water could sustain the Mayan’s for days. By adding wholefoods like coconut and chia and many other foods made by God to your diet, you fuel your body with quality nutrients.

If you wouldn’t put the cheapest petrol into a Maserati why would you add cheap, dead food, which is supposed to be fuel for your body– to your body? Your body is worth quadruple times the value of any Maserati on earth. Your body is the most valuable thing you own on this earth. Without it, where would you be? Why not give it what it needs?

What do you think of this recipe? Have you tried it out yet??!!! Perfect Summer treat!!

Berry, Banana and Vanilla Mousse

by Vashte on August 29, 2013

organic, raw, gluten free, dairyfree, no added sugar, alkalise, weightloss, fatloss, delicious

Berry Mousse

Summer is right around the corner! If I wasn’t mistaken I would say it is here! Hot days are on the Coast already so I’m really bugging out to cooling, refreshing smoothies, mousse’s, and refreshing drinks of any kind!

These are great if you are looking to enjoy flavour, nutrients and fill up on healthy ingredients- not to mention can aid in weightloss, and fatloss when coupled with healthy nutrition, positive head space and a realistic exercise plan. Gone are the days of lettuce leaves and more lettuce leaves.

I can see you asking yourself the question- mm how do I make this mousse myself?

It is easy – as are all my recipes. I’m not one for hanging in the kitchen long. Life is far to short to be tied to the kitchen sink. Yes, I like my tasty food and that means it is fresh, fast and deliciously healthy so I can get outside and enjoy the finer things in life! Like having fun!

This recipe is perfect for anyone. Adults, children, people wanting to lose weight, people wanting to gain weight. You just need to know how to manipulate the ingredients to suit your cause.  This recipe I am about to share with you is great for weightloss/fatloss  when on a nutritional programme designed for such a thing. Children can enjoy this anytime of the day- and will love it, keeping them nutritionally satisfied and very happy! It is a suitable and great way to start the day for anyone on the run but wanting to help balance out blood sugar levels.

Please enjoy and feel welcomed and encouraged to ask any questions!

I do not have sugar or honey in my cupboard. The fruit available contains enough sweetness for me, but for many, this can be a big jump so to bridge the gap here is what I suggest: Throw away all white and brown sugar and never buy it again. To help get over the sugar addiction withdrawal symptoms and onslaught of change on your taste buds, you can use rice bran syrup instead or perhaps stevia for a short time. Both are natural sweeteners but each time you add these to your foods, use less and less. We get enough natural sugar from our foods, but Ias the great majority of us live in a sugar laced world- without even realising it lets take the transition at your pace initially. You can break free, if you want to.

Berry mousse

What is in it?

  • Handful or two of fresh strawberries- use any berries you like. Frozen is ok too.
  • 1 banana
  • 100 mls unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 avocado (this is very important to make it mousse-like)
  • 1 teaspoon l-glutamine – helps to reduce sugar cravings
  • 2 tablespoons pea protein – unsweetened. Buy from bulk foods.
  • 3 pods of cardamon – just loving this flavour at the moment!
  • 1-2 teaspoons organic vanilla essence
  • 2 tablespoons soaked organic linseeds- this will aid digestion and facilitate movement 😉
  • ice

How to make it work:

Place all ingredients in a powerful blender. Blend until think and creamy.

Vashte's Berry Mousse

If fresh berry mousse is not sweet enough for your palate at this stage in the game, add 1 teaspoon of rice bran syrup or stevia and blend again. Continue adding natural sweetener until you reach the desired flavour. Please do not add extra sweetener until you have tried your mousse. You will get to the stage when you do not wish to add sweetener if you continue to consume a diet consisting of mostly leafy greens salads/veges coupled with proton and good fats.

FREE Tips: 😉

  • Freeze this in popsicle moulds for a healthy, delicious, summer iceblock!
  • Only add a small amount of liquid (almond milk) to ensure a thick consistency. It is better for it to be too thick, this way to can add more liquid to make it more viscous. If it is too runny for a mousse you can serve is as a smoothie, or add another 1/4 avocado for more creaminess and thickness.
  • This is an ideal breakfast or lunch option for weightloss.

Bon Appetite my friends!

Green and Cleansing Breakfast-In-A-Glass

by Vashte on July 1, 2013

 Fast, healthy and filling.

Alkalising, Vegan, 100% Natural, Delicious, Clean Eating, Gluten Free, Sugar Free Breakfast In A Glass. Alkalise.

Want to get it right but still don’t think you can make the time? Well Ok then- this baby may help you get on your way to a more alkaline, cleansed state of being! Whipped up in a jiffy and can be eaten on the run if you insist. Some days it just cant be helped so arm yourself with healthy options and you can still maintain balanced blood sugars, stay energised and stay alert. Better options and better choices make life that much easier, and that much more fun!

Your choice always!

What you need:

  • 1/2 grapefruit, lemon and apple. (You can leave the grapefruit if you don’t like a tart taste)
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 cup lettuce
  • Fresh mint or coriander
  • 3 teaspoons chia
  • 2 Tablespoons activated organics linseeds
  • 1/2 Cup coconut water
  • 2 Tablespoons of barley grass (back this off if you are only starting on the organic powdered greens to 1 teaspoon, slowly build up)
  • As much ginger as you like. It is great for the stomach and digestion, as are all these ingredients!
  • Ice.
  • Add one scoop of plain unflavoured protein powder (I use pea protein, if at all) to slow absorption and keep hunger at bay for longer.

How To Make It Work: Breakfast IN A Glass

Very simple! Throw it all into your food processor. I have a very strong blender called a VitaMix. Blend until combined. If you would like it more viscous, add more coconut water or filtered water.

Sip this slowly over a period of time, don’t rush it as it is very filling. As these ingredients are easily absorbable, live and digestible you are likely to be hungry within one to two hours. Make sure you have prepared for the day, but I am sure you do that every day :)

This is the perfect breakfast as it contains Omega 3’s, live foods, and clean protein. If breakfast , lunch and dinner contain these three components, expect your body to respond by keeping balanced energy levels throughout the day, balancing blood sugars, keep hunger at bay, destroy ”cravings”, feel more in control of what foods to eat, lose body fat over time. If the body is fed live, highly nutritional wholefoods, it can more easily fight dis-ease and function as it  was designed to function.

Try it on for size.. perhaps your  (fat) size may diminish as a ‘side’ effect 😉 By feeding the body the right ingredients, it is possible to turn it into a fat burning machine, as opposed to a fat storing machine. Our bodies are usually doing on or the other. I know what I intend for mine to be doing most of the time. What about you?

I would love to hear from you if you make green smoothies or juices in the mornings! Post your comments below- perhaps you have ideas to share with me?!

Feel free to share this post to people who may get something from it!

Have a super charged, incredible hulk kind of day!

Live Your Life OutLoud and Love It!!

Coconut, Almond and Craisin Melt

by Vashte on June 29, 2013

-Raw, Vegan,  Gluten Free, Paleo, Sugar Free, Sweet Treat, 100% Natural, Healthy!-

Love your sweets but think you ”can’t” have them? Think again! Oh yes, the day of ”having your cake and eating it too”, may have arrived! Absolutely, you can’t eat the sweets from the shops and get away with it.. and why would you want them after you come to understand there really IS ‘food‘ and then there is fooood. Real food, food that nourishes the body and therefore the mind. As the mind is calm the Spirit and Soul are at peace.

Coconut, Almond and Craisin Melt

Like the look of this delicacy but think it would fall in the ‘bad” food list? Think again!!

  • Sick of guilt and shame from eating all the ‘wrong’ foods?
  • Don’t know what the right foods are?
  • Don’t know where to start?
  • Think you are addicted to chocolate, cakes, lollies…anything sweet? hmm you probably are as processed sugar has that effect on the human body. The enlightening thing is- you can ditch that ”addiction” and move on to better and brighter ways of living and loving your food.
  • Want to ditch the cravings?
  • Want to be at peace without the constant dreaming and fantasising about food?- You are not alone. Most of us have been there, are there, or are working through this.
  • We are led to believe we live in a ”can’t have” world unless we punish ourselves and force ourselves into a higher state of being! We force ourselves to fit into some mould created by other people (who exactly and why?) We conform to requirements or a set of standards-again, set by someone or something- I ask you why?  It is great to have a goal for your physical appearance- how you get there is a significant journey, and what happens after you hit your goal is even more crucial.

Many people enter into extreme dieting and training techniques;  some make their goal, many fall in the process, and then the great majority who hit their goal– have no aftercare or longterm plan on how to maintain or balance. Enter: severe train wreck- physically, mentally, spiritually.

One of many keys to success in the journey and after the journey is correct nutritional balancing, coupled with a strong sense of peace in who you are. What you put in is what you get out, much like a car. Put poor quality fuel or oil in, expect that car to corrode and perform poorly over time. Rotting from the inside out. Why would the human body and mind be any different?

Calories in vs calories out? Really? When a calorie is not a calorie, is not a calorie… how can that work? What that calorie is, is vitally important as to how your body uses that calorie- if at all -judging by the quality of ”so-called foods” so readily available in the modern day diet. Since when has man EVER been able to replicate, let alone enhance, any food product made by God? Never. Don’t ignore the ‘side effects’ – they mean something. Something very significant. Remember the car and the fuel….

This high fat, high protein snack is the bomb!

My melt.

Think fat is bad for you? Once again, think again!!! Good Fat can be used by the body to burn fat. Good Fat can be used by the body to aid in cellular communication! But where did this war on fat come from? Isn’t it better to eat low fat products? There is a school of thought out today stating low fat products cause more fat to be produced in the body– and I subscribe to this understanding. If low fat worked- we would all be skinny little minnies by now, lean, mean, muscular machines and able to eat copious amounts of this miracle food. But we are not. Instead, despite the increase in gyms, readily available sources of knowledge on the internet about weight loss, as well as more and more ”experts” in the field of weight loss’ and nutrition- we continue to get fatter and fatter, sicker and sicker. Something is wrong. Clearly.

What you have been doing; What you have been taught- could it be wrong? You wouldn’t be here, reading this post – wishing you could eat a piece of my coconut, almond and craisin slice without gaining weight. Wishing that you wouldn’t put on weight just by looking at it. Wishing you could just have a piece and put the rest back without bingeing. What you have been doing has not worked. Perhaps it is time to open your minds to a different way of thinking. Try it on for size. If you keep doing what you have been doing, expecting a different result– well, that has been described as the first state of ”madness”. I am not sure it is madness, but it could, and is likely, to lead to madness…you may as well be banging your head against a brick wall hoping to knock a brick out before you knock yourself out. Frustration is awful.

Try something new!!!! Go on, I dare you!!!

Diets don’t work. They never have, they never will. You will always rebound. How severe- you can never tell. Damage control – who is out there for the damage control? The aftercare?- Very few people.

Stop buying chocolate, sweets, vices from the shops. Start making your own, or buying from a good organic wholefood source. High in calories, yes! But the right calories. Old school thinking of fat being ‘bad’ for you is dead. And if not dead, dead thinking. This school of thought produces the exact the opposite result that you want in your body and therefore in your mind. Result: You are at odds with yourself and will continuously fight yourself for your own sanity. You are at war with your own body. That will never eventuate in a pretty state, or sight.

Crave food? Are you kidding? You don’t have to. Even when you have a goal in mind. Really. Crave food? You are at the mercy of food –an inanimate object- how ludicrous is that? And yet we allow ourselves to be subjected to this school of thought every day thinking it is normal. This is not normal at all, and it is totally unnecessary.

Restrictive thinking results in bingeing. No matter what you are restricting yourself from be it: food, drink, sleep, music, party time.. the list goes on. Change your mindset to abundance. It is natural for the human brain to want what it ”is not allowed to have”!! Think about that- when you restrict yourself from something, do you now become obsessed with that which you have restricted yourself from?! Eventually, at some point you fall off the rails and throw yourself deeper into that which you have restrained yourself from. This is limited thinking- poverty mentality. However, when you give yourself free reign over everything in life, life becomes that much more peaceful. Living an abundant life, knowing everything is available to you for whenever you need it. You no longer ”crave” that which you can’t have- as you can ”have” everything. You are free to ask yourself- do I REALLY want this?

Thus it is with your body. Feed it the right nutrients, and it will tell you when to eat, how much and how often. Feed it wholefoods, unchanged by man, and it can use those nutrients efficiently and effectively. This will feed your body, therefore feed your mind and calm your Spirit. You will balance and you will achieve your goals in the physical without the insatiable cravings, desires and loss of control when you feel you are ”out of control”. It is time to get off the treadmill and try something new.

Coconut, Almond and Craisin Melt

What You Need:

  • 1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Almond Meal (crushed up almonds)
  • 4 Tablespoons Coconut FLAKES – different to desiccated coconut.
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped up lmonds
  • 1/4 Cup Craisins or any dried fruit you like- or none at all!!!
  • 1/4 Cup Raw Cacaco Nibs
  • Dark chocolate for grating over top.

Not sweet enough? It should be but if not add some Rice Malt Syrup (available from Coles as your sweetener. But first taste to make sure you need it.

How To Make It Work:

  • So easy. Melt the coconut oil, then add everything in together and mix! Voila!! Done!
  • Line a baking tray with baking paper and slosh it all onto the tray. This recipe, as with all my recipes, can be made with more or less of any ingredient. Play with them! If you think it should be more liquidy, add more melted coconut oil. Want it more chunky add more other ingredients.
  • Flatten the mixture out and pop it in the freezer for long enough for it to set. I keep mine in the freezer as you can eat I straight from there. Break it into pieces- its not meant to be a perfectly formed snack. Enjoy.
  • You wont be able to eat huge quantities of this. It is rich. High in great nutrients, great fats, great proteins. Perfect for after a heavy weights session, or for endurance training and exercise. Kids love it too.

-Raw, Wholefood, Sugar Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Grain Free –

-Sweet Treat AND good for you!! Easy to make-

-Delicious!!- Coconut Chia Dessert

It’s winter. It is cold and getting colder. We seem to gravitate towards winter wholesome foods in cold seasons.  Many people slow riiight down, and some come to a complete stop. All because it is winter and it is cold. Bad combination! We are not bears, and we do not need to store fat for our hibernation period… fact is, it is very hard to hibernate away from the world for a long period of time. People start to wonder… But very easy to build up fatty deposits due to this combination of behaviour and then freak out when Summer sneaks up on us all of a sudden!! I mean, who can predict Summer coming??? sigh, we do it to ourselves each and every year… how about making this year- 2013- the year you started preparing for Summer IN THE WINTER. LIKE NOW!!!

I thought I would share this little gem with you for the Winter season! (and the Summer, Autumn and Spring). These little glasses of sweet delight come packed with chia seeds. Chia seeds are one of the many ‘superfoods’ (I really do not like that term if you must know, it is so over marketed) available in the supermarket, from health food shops and every where on the net these days. It is a good thing. These little seeds are incredible in and of themselves, and incredible for many human beings and their digestion! They are unobtrusive, don’t have a strong flavour and can be added to pretty much any liquidy substance, including bread and cake mixtures to add nutrients and aid digestion.  I used to pour a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds into my bottled water and drink throughout the day. Not only do they fill me up, they keep things moving along nicely which is an issue many people have due to poor nutrient levels in the readily available foods of today. If you are going to try this- adding chia to your water- start with 1 teaspoon per 1.5L water, and increase as your body dictates. You know your body, it is up to you to monitor how it processes foods. If this is a new concept to you, I encourage you to start to take note of how your body digests certain foods and drinks- take note of how you feel after eating breakfast, lunch and dinner. How you feel when you snack, (what are you thinking and doing at the time), what time you snack, what foods you snack on… After eating are you energetic, clear headed, focused, satiated or over full, do you get tired, bloating, gas, do you pass fluid and solids easily every day? These are all things you can take note of, monitor and be aware of changes BEFORE they turn into something bigger than necessary.

It is your body. One life, Live it Well!

As we seem to love reaching for the sweet treats during the colder months (or is it all months?!) I thought these Coconut, Cashew , Mango Chia Desserts could help satisfy your sweet tooth without adding ridiculously high amounts of refined sugars to your chosen diet. It works for me, maybe it will work for you too? chia dessert

To make 4 decent sized portions, or 8 taster sized portions you will need:

  • 1 cup chia seeds. white or black.
  • 750 ml coconut milk (can use coconut cream but watch portion size, and you can use coconut water for a runnier lighter dessert. I reduce the water content or increase chia seeds)
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango Options: add whichever fruit you like or just leave the fruit out. Play with this and figure out what you like the best!
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla. I use organic vanilla bean from the supermarket. It is available in powder form too from the health shops.
  • Rice bran Syrup to sweeten if necessary. Options: stevia, or xylitol. If you add honey, agave syrup, or any other sweetener you are adding sugar.
  • Chopped raw cashews (activated are best). Options: any other nut you personally prefer! No rules!! Mix them in or just sprinkle on top.
  • Options: add goji, craisins, coconut flakes, cacao powder and or nibs… it really is up to you and what you have in the cupboard!!!

To Make It Work:

Mix everything together! Watch as the chia expands and thickens into the mixture. If you feel the need, add water to ensure the dessert does not become gluggy, or more coconut water.  An option is to mix the milk, chia, vanilla, and sweetener together, allow the mixture to thicken, then layer the chia dessert into serving bowls as a base. Add  fruits/nut/custard… use your imagination, and then top with the remaining chia dessert. It looks pretty special, tastes amazing too!! Best served in a glass, or glass container if you are going for the pretty look! chia desserts

Let your desserts set in the fridge before serving. Great as a sweet snack to banish those sweet cravings mid afternoon; the kids love this and best of all this is an incredibly healthy snack. Low in sugars and high in good fats.  These will keep in the fridge for a couple of days or you can freeze them for longer periods. Save them for rainy days as opposed to store-bought chocolate.

Chia was an ancient food for the Mayan’s. It is said they would run for miles on chia and water alone and maintain complete  nourishment. Chia has been used for thousands of years by civilianisation’s living well over the average age of our ‘developed’ countries. I am no expert on any subject– the more I learn the more I learn there is so much to learn!!! I do think it pays to investigate for yourself and start to question why we as a developed nation are so horribly ill, obese and overweight. Why are our children being born with terminal illnesses? Why are so many young people falling to terminal illnesses? Why are no valid, black and white answers coming from the plethora of ”councils’ set up to ”çure’ these diseases especially when they have such black and white definitions, rules and regulations ON the diseases AND how to supposedly CURE them? CLEARLY THEY DON’T WORK. Why won’t they look for alternative answers and preventative treatment as opposed to just band-aiding a festering sore?! Science??! Why are diseases  increasing and our quality of life decreasing?

Start asking questions for yourselves before you need them. You too may find the real hope for any chance of an answer lies in the ways our ancestors lived, to a large degree.

  • How they ate.
  • What they thought.
  • How often they moved.

To start- there was no processed, packaged, microwaved foods back then. Not really even in our grandparents, or great grandparents days. Doesn’t that make you wonder, just a little? Not everything they ate was laced, nor, overflowing with refined sugar which is more relevant for 2013. They ate good fat and…they were lean. Leaner than the majority of the developed nations today. They moved more. Get up and go for a walk for crying out loud! Get some fresh air! That alone can change toxic thoughts and toxic energy into recharged and revitalised energy. It really is not rocket science. It can be easy if you look in the right places.

This blog could be a good basic place to start! On this blog, I am exploring my life in 2013 filled with health, happiness and wholefood living. I am real. I am grounded but I promise you I am reaching for the stars. If you too want to get a fresh approach, and start exploring the very real possibilities of a truer  health from within, without the mumbo jumbo, then feel from to pop your details up there in the box to keep updated on this blog. Make some recipes I post! :) Make some comments on the thoughts and suggestions I have! Tell me what you want to hear?! Ask questions!! Lets do this together. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other, one day at a time.

We CAN change- you CAN change.

If you imagine it, you can dream it and anything you imagine and dream.. is yours if you just take the steps to make it happen. That starts with ONE step. That is all- followed by another step. There is no race, there is no rush. Take it at your own pace. There are no rules, no regulations, just you exploring the very real prospect of a healthier life, through healthier living based on healthier choices in nutrition; in the thoughts you think and the things you find important in this day and age.

Don’t live “it is not until you lose something, or someone dear to you that you realise how important that really was to you”. Cherish your life, and the life of those you love. Live a healthy long and prosperous life- the only way to do that, as I see it, is to start to ask questions and do your own research. Protein Truffles

Sweets, Sweets and more Sweets. What is it about the taste of something sweet we all love once in a while.. or perhaps a little too often?!

Is it the fact we know we ‘should’ not be eating this decadent sweet stuff. Is this act of naughtiness our defiant child coming forth? Mischievousness on the prowl! 😉

Rules Rule and more Rules! What is that saying- rules are made to be broken?! So you ‘defy’ yourself and feed the sugar craving… “So there!!” -Thus setting in motion hours spent in regret and remorse for giving in to that temptation once again…“how could  I have been so weak?” And on it goes.

No not you? You prefer a more savoury taste? Well, dear friend, you are still feeding the same sugar addiction. Those carbs- they turn to sugar which then turns to fat if you don’t use the energy you just ingested… and quickly. Nothing like a long run after a binge on chocolate, or pizza is there? (She shudders at the very real visualisation she gets if that were ever (not in a million years) to occur- technicolour yawn …)

Soooo how do we get around this sticky sweet situation we ponder? Jump on yet another diet.? “Oh but this one isn’t a fad.. it is a lifestyle choice” (blink blink smile smile) .. whatever. It’s a diet. Get real and honest. A Diet OK? You are looking down the barrel of yet another diet. STOP!!!!!!Please!!!!! Don’t do it!!!!

How about quitting! Quitting those diets! You know they do not work! Consider easing up on yourself. Drop the guilt. Drop the rules. You WILL break those rules if not by the end of the will eventually. A great guideline to live by is the 80/20 rule. This applies across many facets in life.  Stay within these parameters and you can be fairly confident you are ahead of the pack if you live in the 80% health range and choose to stray 20% of the time. Happy days!!

That being said- my sugar free chocolate protein truffles I present to you today can fall in the 80% health range! NOOOOO I hear you cry!! Yes!! It is true!

This is wholefood. This is 100% natural food. Swop it-Dont drop it!!! Ditch the over processed, nutrient empty, calorie laden cheap crap for: Great ingredients, Naturally sweet, Nutrient dense, GOOD calorie filled foods! I make these sugar free chocolate protein truffles delicious and nutritious- you would not even know they were ‘healthy’ by the delectable taste of them if I didn’t tell you they were good for you! Bonus!!

You CAN have your sweet fix without blowing the lifestyle nutrition budget! Enjoy one or two per day as your sweet fix.

What you need:Creating Truffles

All ingredients are approximate and can be swapped if you don’t like a certain ingredient or simply want to try something else in your cupboard. There are no rules- just take the concept and explore for yourself. Some things work, some don’t but the only way to actually know for yourself, is to experiment and try things out for yourself. I use my friends and family as guinea pigs- they don’t seem to mind at all and have no qualms in  telling me what works and, in no uncertain terms, what doesn’t! If you really want the truth – Give them to your kids, or in my case nieces… -nothing like truth in the form of a sledgehammer. Suck it up adults! Can your ego handle it?! Mine takes a while!!!

  • So.. This recipe works!
  • Use organic where ever you can:

1 Cup Almonds (preferably soaked. Even better activated) / 3/4 C Pitted dates/ 1/2 C almond milk (preferably homemade)/1 Tbspn Raw Cacao powder/ 1 Tbspn Raw Cacao Nibs/ 3 Tblspns Raw Honey (from your local markets) /1/4 C mixed sunflower and pumpkin seeds

How to Make It work:

  • Very simple.
  • Blend almonds, dates and milk in a high powdered blender until smooth. The mixture will be thick with a consistency similar to a cake mixture.
  • Remove smooth mixture and add to a bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients to the cake-like mixture and mix well using a wooden spoon.
  • The mixture needs to be slightly wet. If it is too dry add a tad more milk.
  • Roll into little balls. Wet your hands to avoid the mixture completely sticking to your fingers. Be prepared to get a bit messy. Its ok.
  • Dust your truffles with cacao powder, cocoa powder, dark chocolate flakes, or whatever you have a personal preference for.
  • Freeze – makes around 24 balls and takes 15 minutes to make!!! FAST!! Healthy! Delicious!!!

Tip:Sugar free Chocolate protein truffles

Don’t just refrigerate as the consistency will remain slightly wet. Keep these truffles in the freezer. They will not ‘freeze’- but become firm. YUM.

Delicious. Sugar free. Guilt free.

If you prefer a sweeter taste – use organic honey instead of rice malt syrup. These truffles will no longer be sugar free with honey.

Add different ingredients as you see fit. Enjoy experimenting! Stop buying cheap low quality sweets from the shops! I keep a stock in my freezer/fridge/cupboards filled with healthy sweet and savoury snacks. It helps keep my mind at ease thus avoiding the ‘lack-of’ mentality so many people strangely experience in the West. -As if we will ever run out of cheap nasty poor quality food?!  The shops are lined with the stuff!! -Very few people are actually ‘starving’ in the West so it could be an idea to ditch that redundant saying as well! It creates a lie in your own heads that you end up believing. Realistically you know simply by looking in the mirror, you are a long way off from starving. xx

Control. You are in control of what you buy. You are in control of what you eat. Take charge and make plans to ensure you are NOT missing out on anything in life. Coach your mind to understand that concept! Enjoy my sugar free, guilt free chocolate protein truffles! Wholefood and 100% natural!! Delicious!!

Please feel free to share this blog post and or make comments! I would love to hear from you!! Any suggestions on variations? I would love to try your variations!!

God bless you
