Time Out

by Vashte on May 15, 2013

My last post was way back at the beginning of April- that’s a month and a bit Vashte. What is your excuse?!Time Out

Fact: I needed some time out. I did not want time out. I was encouraged to take time out, by my body. We all need time out every now and then- don’t wait until you are forced!

It would appear that I have been running on adrenalin for many years. I then ramped it up in the past two. Having drive, and being driven are two very different concepts for the body to work with. Most often we do not know we are being driven while we are ‘being’ driven. Isn’t that great news?! (sarcasm intended). Our adrenal gland is needed to respond to stress. Too much for too long can cause chronic fatigue as well as a number of other health issues. Add a sudden unexpected event in life and our body’s ‘fight or flight‘ response can be activated.

The fight or flight response is activated in a healthy person when that person is suddenly frightened, or when someone surprises them (for example). They will feel a sudden surge of energy, with all senses wired for action and they will usually scream, jump out of the way, or prepare to attack. Then, once the surprise is realised, the body returns back to the normal state of being- the heart returns to its regular beat, and they could laugh, scold or react in some way and the senses then ‘chillax’.

Many people today are running on empty through the stresses of day to day living. Work/career expectations, deadlines to meet; children to care for involving a mammoth amount of running around for social activities these days, feeding their hungry little mouths and dealing with their high octane energy; business and social expectations, meetings to attend; personal goals such as in fitness; further education; making time for your husband or wife not to mention family events .. and then there is you. Our calenders are overflowing with events- there is ‘never enough time in the day!’  Sound familiar? We live in constant adrenal overdrive– as our bodies are put under more and more stress, good and bad; we deal with it. You know it’s true! You make a way for all these things to happen somehow. We are all some form of Superman or Superwoman – not really through choice but through expectations we either allow other people to put on us, and those expectations we put on ourselves.

The body is an incredible machine. It is designed to survive and win. And it does- look at you now! After all you have put it through it is still here, doing the absolute best it possibly can- with or without your help. Most people today offer it no help whatsoever. Some (many) seem to have a death wish and choose to punish their bodies in every way possible. Who is winning? You, or your body? That body is. No matter what state YOU put it in- it is fighting to keep you breathing and functioning at optimum levels for the state you have put yourself in.

So ‘running on adrenals’ is a common thing in the world today. Many do not make an effort, let alone a concerted effort,  in caring for this body we have been given to rent. Not really. Not the majority. We push our bodies to the extreme; we do not allow them to rest nor sleep enough; we do not choose healthy food options opting to overeat in most cases, or undereat in others; many drink alcohol in excess especially in the weekends; many take drugs legal and illegal, we cover ourselves in toxic chemicals and clean our homes with those same toxins; we work REALLY REALLY hard. We are constantly tired. This is adrenal fatigue. This is running on empty.

What happens when a major event in life occurs to a body running on empty, and or fueled with toxins, and filled with all the wrong ingredients?

A major event in life does not have to be a bad one! A positive event can tip the scales just as much as a negative if the equation has been set!! So; enter a sudden major positive or negative life event such as: a sudden change in career, moving home; a breakup of a long-term relationship, an introduction to a relationship; a death, a birth; there are many events that can cause a sudden shock to our already stressed out bodies. What then happens? How do we survive? ah ..But we do. That body is determined to keep you functioning at your peak state, whatever your peak state looks like for you in your current body.

Enter: Fight or Flight state. Fight or Flight state is not designed for long term use. It is designed to fill you with adrenalin to get out out NOW, or fight for your life. It is a response the body makes in a crisis situation. It is momentary. Then it is designed to stop. A major shock/crisis in life can result in a person living in this state for much longer than intended.- Not good.  Most people do not realise they are there, until they come down. With a thud. The fact is- we have to come down at some stage. It is possible to live for years in this state, and the health repercussion are severe. Why?

In fight or flight state you are in overdrive. You are alert, ready for action at any given time. If you are living in this state you are ready for action anytime, anyday. You do not rest. In order for the body to function at this level, it decides that certain other everyday functions can be slowed down or even switched off if we push the body for long enough. Take for instance, the following:

  • The digestive system – shut it down, not needed in this state.
  • The immune system – shut it down, not needed in the state.
  • The blood system – activate thickening of the blood.
  • The BRAIN system – concentration on high alert 24 hours of the day. Shut down short term memory and other unrelated functions in this state.
  • The reproductive system – shut it down, not needed in this state.
  • The excretory system – shut down bowel movement, not needed in this state.

Oh dear.

Our body’s total focus is on fight or flight now. Nothing else is needed in this state. Fine for a very short period of time, but absolutely not fine for any longer. Too many people today are living much of their adult lives in this state until, they crash. And they have to. And it is nasty at that point.

The importance of slowing down and making time to relax, coming to terms with events in our lives, relaxing and accepting, then letting go is momentous. Ask yourself:

  • What is it you are running away from, or what is it you are running to? Why?
  • What have you loaded your plate with and why? Really ask yourself this.
  • And give yourself time to answer these questions.

I fully realised my body had been in fight/flight state only recently. You see, you do not always see it when you are living it.-When you are in it. Especially when you are determined not to let anything hold you down or slow you down.  How can you when you think you are doing all the right things, you are moving in the direction you think you want to go in; when everything is exciting and fun but you have no time to spare; people need to schedule 2 months in advance to see you- family included; you fall in a heap every night and can hardly get out of bed in the mornings- but that is normal isn’t it? It will pass. You tell yourself to “Eat some cement- harden up”. You have a million balls and you are juggling them perfectly– well, so I thought... Then along comes one more and oh my. I drop them all…

That was NOT part of the plan Jan!

Focus focus focus– get back on track. But you can’t. No matter how hard you try; and the harder you try the slower you become. The more painful it gets. Well that is how it was for me. Perhaps you can relate?

I started gaining weight in Oct 12, I could feel it but it was not showing till Dec 12. As I was so lean I looked ‘normal’ in Dec 12- no alarm bells went off for other people. Inside I was panicking but again, thought it would pass… wrong!!  In Feb 13 I was in agony. I was not eating excessively during this time so what was happening?! Finally in that month, when I could not stand the sight of food at all (it is true!), and when I was dry retching at the sight and thought of an apple; I went to hospital. I had an impacted colon!!!! How on earth could this happen…. to me??? Look at what I eat! Look at what I drink!! Look at how I exercise!!! This makes NO SENSE whatsoever. I felt like throwing everything away as this ‘health stuff’ clearly does not work. I was over it! I felt defeated, by my own team.

It was time to get real with myself and time to get honest.

My body had been in fight/flight for the past 2 years. Many functions had shut down. But as I have mentioned time and time again on this blog, our bodies are incredible. They just keep on keeping-on until they just really really can not any more. The more you ignore the gentle signals they send you- the more the body will shut down the basics and run in survival mode. If you, like me, ignore the warning signals in the early stages, you can and likely will find yourself in desperate circumstances. That is painful. On every level. Physically, emotionally and spiritually. When you are in that hospital, which is where most people end up, as I did, you are at the beck and call of random doctors. Doctors who treat you as a number. Doctors who treat you with every pharmaceutical drug available as the first and only answer. Scary stuff. What a roller coaster ride I had dealing with this added onslaught!!! Please do not be like me and ignore those early symptoms. It takes so much longer to get back on track.

This all came about due to an unconscious and conscious (I suppose), emotional response to a trauma two years ago. I had to truly come to terms with that loss. I thought I had. My body clearly proves I had not. I had to truly come to terms with the fact I had built a brick wall around myself so that I would not hurt again. Ludicrous, yes but this is what I saw when I looked at my actions in the past two years. I had to pull that down so that I could be loved, and love again. I had to slow down!!!! (NOOOOOOO) Yes Vashte.

Sometimes in life the best thing we can do is slow down and stop, if we can. Contemplate and conceptualize life as we know it. Then start again refreshed; either on the same track;slow down or with a slight change in direction; or go for gold and flip it completely. You call the shots. What do YOU want in life? I had to ask myself that again, and will continue to ask myself that to ensure I am on track.

Things change the only thing constant in life is change so do not wish for people to stay they same. They won’t. Do not wish for things to stay the same. They wont. Educate yourself and empower yourself to prepare for change- BE the change!! And it is OK to realise you have made mistakes. I have, you have, we all have. Learn from them, forgive yourself, forgive others and carry on.

Everything is OK. Everything is MORE THAN OK now! I know I am always in the right place at the right time, in every circumstance.  I know I stumble occasionally- I am human and in saying that – that is exactly why I have my hand in Jesus’- so that when I do He is there to stop me falling. My strength is found in Him and I know I can do all things through Him as He strengthens me.

Who strengthens you? If it is you, in your own strength.. you will tire. As I did. What happens then? Who strengthens you then?

I am back on track and excited for this next chapter in life! It looks bright. It is filled with love, and excitement, PEACE, and expectation of the things I can do in and hopefully for, this world! Are you excited about the things you can do in this world? Oh get excited! Believe and have faith that you are destined for great things! You are!

So I thought I would share part of the reason for my silence throughout the month of April. Noone is bulletproof -as much as I loved to imagine myself to be 😉 It was a time of honesty with myself; forgiveness; breaking down of barriers; rest and recuperation in my health and love life. I am blessed to have been given this time out. Thank you x. It was time to get truly excited again; fall in love again with life and all that it offers- it offers so much! A time of gratitude and a time to recalibrate my direction.

Life is amazing! Keep doing what you do if you love it- and change it if you don’t! Be grateful for all that you have today– set goals forrelax what you want in your future and set a path to make them happen- always live in the TODAY as that is where we are- IN today. Be open for lessons in life; do not be too proud to accept them. Lessons are not something to be embarrassed about, rather, they are something to cherish and be thankful for. If you do not learn, you do not grow! Thus you stagnate. Keep growing into a new you; a brighter you; a more refreshing you! And take time out to relax and be aware of those emotions, be aware of the subtle hints your body sends you. Let your emotions out sensibly- if you do not, they will affect you negatively, as well as affect the people around you; take action on those physical warning signs to negate a crisis in the not too distant future.

One life live it well!!!

How To Live Life Outloud A-Z “K”

by Vashte on April 2, 2013

KindnessKindness

Kindness an action lacking in some people these days. Kindness is one of the key ‘fruits of the Spirit’ from the Christian Bible.

” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, KINDNESS, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control” Gal 5: 22

Kindness is looking outside of our present circumstance and into another person’s life with the intention of benefiting or helping that person in some way. Kindness can be a simple act such as getting up to offer your seat for someone else; holding the door open for the people following you; smiling at a stranger. So easy, yet so lacking in 2013. Be a blessing today and focus on showing some kindness to people  in your life- today.

Knight in shining armour

Calling all females! How to BE in 2013…. so many of us are confused. We don’t know how to act. Many have not been shown HOW to be a lady. How do you attract a knight in shining armour- and more importantly- does such a creature even exist?! Indeed he does; but he does not show himself to girls who flaunt themselves in handkerchiefs masquerading as clothing; nor does he show himself to females who give themselves freely. You know what I mean. Girls.. it is worth the wait. So wait. Wait for your knight in shining armour – do not LOOK for him. Get on with living your own life and he will appear. Take time to grow into you with poise and grace.  Your knight will appear for his princess. Be on alert for predators. Predators are a dime a dozen and easy to spot- predators will want to move fast. Knights are happy to take it slow. A knight will respect you for your elegance; your restraint; your class and your grace. A knight will admire you growing into the amazingness that is you and will encourage you on this path. Stay clear of the trap which is the world- you not need to bare all of your flesh to attract a man of integrity, class and honour. Keep your kisses for your true knight. Save your heart from breaking too many times. Stay away from the dark cold world that demands you sell your soul and your self respect to the first male that shows you attention and you will reap the benefits for finding true love in a world teaching confusion to the masses.

Kombucha and Kefir

…what are these?! Both Kombucha and Kefir are fermented foods. Fermented foods are- very basically- foods that can help balance the gut with good bacteria.  Why do we need foods such as these?

Our world is fast paced. We live in a microwave society where we expect everything yesterday. Our foods are often over processed, pre-packaged, pre-made, and dare I say it-microwaved. ‘Food’ such as this is dead. It provides the body very little to zero nutritional benefit. By introducing fermented foods into our diets, we can help start to balance the bacteria in the gut. This is very important to our overall health-more so than most people realise. Kombucha and kefir are just two of many options that can aid in the growth of pre and pro-biotics needed in the gut via nutrition. Pop into your local quality health food store for more information on probiotics and fermented foods; or message me for guidance. I have recently experienced the result of stripping my gut completely from all good and bad bacteria. It is an awful experience. There are specific steps needed to repopulate the gut with good bacteria in order for the body to have the ability to actually can digest and absorb nutrients in the food we eat, and keep disease at bay. You need a good naturopath to oversee you in this process. Without a healthy gut you have little control over your health and open yourself to dis-ease. Get it right. NOW.

Kale and Sea Kelp

Greens, greens and more greens! Alkalise that body! Fall in love with your greens! Find a great local farmers markets; organic preferably, and visit every week. Green veges are you new best friend! They help you flush the body of toxins which in turn reduces fat resulting in size/fat loss! As 70% of our population is overweight/obese- this is a GOOD THING!

Kale– some of the many benefits of kale include: ” A super food for life – one cup of kale contains vitamins K, A, C, B6, E plus minerals such as, manganese, copper, calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium.”

Sea Kelp in small doses: “Sea kelp is a natural source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium. In fact it contains the highest natural concentration of calcium of any food – 10 times more than milk.”

Kilojoules

My meals are largely comprised of protein, good fats and loads of green leafy vegetables. Why? Because meals like this can turn my body into a lean, mean, fat-burning machine. Polenta vegetarian frittataPerhaps they will do the same for you too! I have no idea as to how many kilojoules they comprise of.

Move more to burn kilojoules but DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME COUNTING THEM! What is the point of counting kilojoules when our bodies use foods in very different ways? Counting kilojoules is a waste of my time and results only in worry and paranoia if I eat clean, whole, organic fresh food!

Eat clean fresh, wholefoods; mostly protein, good fats and plenty of fresh organic leafy green veges; move that body for 30mins to an hour a day (walking is great!); drink plenty of filtered alkaline water if you can; get 8 hours sleep ideally; and reduce your STRESS levels over and above all else.

Health is not rocket science so we ought to stop treating it like it is. Keep it simple. it is time to wake up to ourselves and admit that we know most food arriving in a box; most pre-made food; any fast food… is not food at all. Lets get logical and go back to basics in this life of ours. In order to live a long, healthy, prosperous, energetic life without the BRAIN FOG every single day of our lives.. it is simple:

Choose kindness to reduce stress!; choose to wait for your knight in shining armour to reduce heart ache and…stress;  choose kombucha, kefir and fermented foods to give your body pre and probiotics to help digest your foods; choose kale and kelp and green leafy veges, choose whole foods, choose organic foods to help get alkaline and be filled with energy. Choose to move more and burn kilojoules without the need to count them!

Choose life. One life, live it well!!!

How to Live Life Outloud in 2013 A-Z “C”

by Vashte on January 7, 2013

Week two of 2013 is upon us! Day 7 already! Where did this first week fly to? Time waits for no one, least of all me. Why would it and why should it! Get ahead of the masses, make your plans for this year and take the action needed to accomplish those goals. Make each and every day count!

C is for Counting!! Don’t count the days! Make the days COUNT!  Every day that passes is a day you will NEVER get back. No amount of money can get you those days, or that time again. It is up to you and make each day count for good! How do you make each day count?

Start with being CONSISTENT in your actions. One step is the start of a marathon isn’t it?! Yes it is!! Make the CHANGES necessary to stay CONSISTENT in your drive for life. Have the ability to CHANGE direction if need be. Be open to CHANGE, new ideas, or ways of thinking.

Take up the CHALLENGE of life! Embrace the CHALLENGES you face with caution …but also with carefree abandon!! Don’t throw caution to the wind in all cases; know when to take the leap of faith – and BE carefree using intelligence!

Live your life with CHARISMA!

CHARISMA is not something you can find randomly. CHARISMA is earned through the life you CHOOSE to live. Live a life being COURAGEOUS, CONSIDERATE, AND CARING to others. When you become this type of person you take the focus off yourself and put your positive attention on to others. CHARISMA follows swiftly in the presence of courageousness, consideration and care for other people and things. You will be a CAPTIVATING soul in this self obsessed world.

Remember to be have fun and be CHEEKY. Keep your wit alive and make others laugh, not at their expense, but in a clean humorous cheeky style. Give the gift of laughter, you will captivate many!

Keep in CONTACT with family and friends. Make new friends. BE the contact point. People are so wrapped up in their own worlds these days; take time to CONTACT other people- face to face. Instigate the CHANGE and make the effort 😉

Lastly- compare yourself to others no more! You are an individual. You are the only YOU in the world. Stop comparing yourself and your lives to anyone else’s. Get on and live your life from your Spirit. Listen with your heart and remember to take your brain with you! If you compare yourself to any other human being, you are selling yourself short. YOU have a unique gift to give to the world. The world needs YOU, not some cheap imitation of someone else.

Those are some of my ‘C’ words to the guide on how to Live Life Outloud Vashtestyle!!

CAPTIVATE THROUGH CHARISMA!!!

Pain Is Temporary

by Vashte on January 27, 2012

I was sent an amazing Youtube video the other day by my new friend Ranil Harshana in Sri Lanka. I like connecting with like minded people :)  People who are full of life and passion. People who have opinions but don’t smother you in their ideas and beliefs. If you ask, then they can elaborate. That’s considerate.

Ranil sent me a clip on Bruce Lee, of whom he is a fan due to his philosophy on life and I’m sure, his determination. It was awesome and great to view a small protein of a Legend’s point of view. Youtube is a great tool for so many things. To the side it links other motivational and inspirational videos so I went shopping 😉 I found this clip and it truely connected to my heart and soul. Please watch this:

http://youtu.be/Oa1j2kBIYOw

Pain IS temporary. Listen to THIS legend!! Pain may last for a minute, for a week, or even a YEAR.. but what is left after is what is important. GO THROUGH IT!!!! At the end of pain IS SUCCESS.

SPOILT BRATS. Thats what many of us are!!! Work hard and you can have whatever it is you want!!! Watch that video  and FEEL your spirit connect with these words. You KNOW it is true. The people I respect most in this world are the ones who fight for their dreams. The ones who set the goals. The ones who FAILED but got back up again. The ones who are STILL ‘failing’ but STILL getting back up.

It may take longer than you want but you WILL get there if you focus like a laser beam on your goal. There really is nothing stopping you other than yourself. There ARE obstacles to climb over, and walk through. Some of them are monsterous but if you let them stop you, you let them beat you. NO WAY! Walk THROUGH them.

Run the race to win my friends! By completing the race you WIN. We are the human race 😉  Don’t compete with, or compare yourself to others. BE YOU. You were born for such a time as this! What you have is unique- there is no one out there who is like you, or can contribute what you can contribute.

And YOU are very special; to me for taking the time to read this, and to SO MANY other people in your life. Walk tall with your head held high and know that you are loved.

xxxx

When they say you CAN’T, show them YOU CAN

by Vashte on January 16, 2012

What is failure anyway? “If you have never failed – you have never lived.”
Failure would be coming to the end of your life and WISHING you had done the things you didn’t have the time, or courage to do.
If it doesn’t work – WHO CARES!! You will learn from the experience and take that learning to a better place.
We live in the 21st Century where we have the PLEASURE AND BLESSING to reinvent ourselves time and time again. Gone are the days when you enter the work force and keep the same job until you reach retirement age…. and what on earth is retirement age anyway????? Some people today are only JUST STARTING their lives at 60years old!!
Today we have the world at our finger tips. Watch this video and REALISE these people were born before THIS TIME and THEY MADE IT AGAINST THE ODDS.

How much easier is it for us??!! Today, if your family won’t support your dreams, your friends will. If your friends don’t support your dreams, your family might… and if neither of them support your dreams.. you have access to the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD at your fingertips via the internet and you can bet your bottom dollar there are a bunch of people out there JUST WAITING to hear, learn, see, and meet YOU.
NEVER BEFORE HAVE WE HAD SO MUCH…SO DON’T FALL INTO THE APATHY OF A SPOILED NATION!!!
It is time to RISE UP and make that impact! Every single one of us is born for a PURPOSE. We needn’t go LOOKING for ourselves in far-off lands… look in the mirror and there you are! Take a trip to explore other places YES!! But let’s not kid ourselves with the ‘searching for ourselves’ slogan.
You are made in the image and likeness of God. You CAN do all things through Him – He strengthens you.
Stand tall and go after what is in your heart. You live once, and once only.. there are no second chances and there is no turning back! Make every moment count!! Come on guys!! Run the race to WIN!

The people who HAVE are the ones who MADE it happen. Don’t sit back wishing and hoping – get up and go after every one of your dreams!!
ITS FUN!!!!

What makes you different to everyone else?

by Vashte on January 8, 2012

  What is YOUR uniqueness?

I say this over and over, and I love it:    ONE LIFE, LIVE IT WELL.

I don’t believe in reincarnation. I believe we are here NOW for SUCH A TIME AS THIS. We are planted here for a REASON and for THIS SEASON.

SO MAKE YOUR IMPACT. YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!

You have been blessed with amazing talents and abilities and NO-ONE IS LIKE YOU SO STOP TRYING TO BE SOMEONE ELSE!!!

LOVE who YOU are and who God DESIGNED you to be.

It has taken me years to get to this place of understanding, gratitude and self-love. I only hope that I can teach you, or guide you or lead you to BELIEVE and APPRECIATE the amazing person you TRULY are…Did you know that you ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE??!!!

oh YES you ARE.

YOU can do things I can not even DREAM of doing. You can do things that I find so incredibly difficult- and yet you can do them with your eyes closed and you think they are NOT SPECIAL. But I DREAM of being able to do those things.

And I can do some things that you find difficult…. WE ARE ALL UNIQUE.

  • Do the things in life that make you HAPPY.
  • The things that give you JOY.

And you will find that you flow WITH the stream instead of against it. People will flock your way, you will feel that joy in your heart as you are living the life you have been designed to live.

Don’t always listen to your family and friends. They DON’T LIVE YOUR LIFE.

THEY DON’T KNOW THE CALLING ON YOUR HEART.

Listen to your heart. You KNOW the Truth. Oh yes you do.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. MAKE THEM REAL.

LIVE A LIFE LESS ORDINARY.

LIVE A LIFE WORTH LIVING.

MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT AND BE GRATEFUL FOR IT XX
