by Vashte on September 12, 2014

Wholefood Workshops With Vashte - SOLD OUTFirstly I want to THANKYOU all so much for your enthusiasm and support for my Wholefood Workshops!! They have been received so well, and with such encouragement!! THANKYOU!!

thankyou from Vashte.comThe first workshop takes place tomorrow  :) I am very excited !! The workshop is filled with amazing people all wanting to have fun, and learn more about the basics of my style of food prep. So- I have a very cool afternoon planned :) It is chocka- block full of ideas, concepts and yummy food!!! Not a grain of refined sugar, refined flour..refined anything in sight! If anyone walks away hungry… I will fall over myself in disbelief.

Made with Love from

My wholefood workshops are planned to be easy, and fun and designed for everyone to get their hands messy, sticky and tasty! It is my firm belief that this is the best way to learn– having been a ‘resistant’ cook for many years growing up I know what it is like to have no confidence in the kitchen- and no desire to be there. NOW – I love the place because I know I am creating the most tasty, delicious meals and morsels… and my food does not make me fat!!!

I long believed food made me fat. That just by looking at food I would put on weight. Even if I smelt food I would gain weight. No longer !!! As I grow in knowledge and understanding of INGREDIENTS, and how they affect the body and mind… what foods my body loves, and what foods my body just absolutely does not love….. food is now my friend. It is not the enemy.

So my friends! I share this and so much more with you in my wholefood workshops, on this page and beyond!! Very excited and so stoked you are all behind me. It really is very encouraging and I greatly appreciate it. I truly do.

My second class on the 27th Sept 2014 is now closed too as I have hit the maximum for that workshop as well!! Thankyou!!!

If you missed out, or couldn’t make these dates- I will be holding more workshops in Oct with a different menu– each month my wholefood workshop will be themed to suit the season–  I cook to the seasons, and keep things as organic as possible. If you want to be in one of the October workshops – you will need to subscribe to my website (top right corner of the home page) as all subscribers get first choice for spaces as a thankyou for hanging with me here!

Wholefood Workshops with Vashte

I specialise in weight loss but I prefer to take the focus off that and make food fun. When we make food fun, using whole ingredients that actually nourish the body, taste incredible and make you feel on top of the world… the rest just falls away without too much bother. This whole ‘weightloss’ industryit is failing. Don’t be part of the failing industry- be part of the REVOLUTION. – the WHOLEFOOD REVOLUTION!! Stay here with me a while, hang out, have fun, and let go of all that baggage the world puts on you. THIS is the way forward to true health.  Come out of the matrix :)

This means the cleverness of blogs (I really don’t understand how this thing works.. ) I just lost my entire blog by pressing the F5 key to reload the page… so at this moment I am slowing my breathing down and focusing on relaxing instead of doing what I instantly wanted to do: throw this thing out the window and communicate telepathically with you all. So you see- we all need a good coach in life – even the coaches themselves!

Wheat-Free Weightloss PIZZA!!!!

by Vashte on April 7, 2014

-wheatfree-grainfree-weightloss-fatloss-glutenfree-celiac-wholefoods-paleo-wheatfree pizza

Who ever heard of losing weight AND eat pizza?! Now you can.

Who ever heard of a pizza without a bread base?! Now you have!

Who ever heard of eating two slices of pizza and feeling full without the sluggish, lethargic experience! Now it is here!

Who ever heard of a pizza so delicious that you wouldn’t even know it was good for you- unless you made it yourself! Here it is!

If the thought of eliminating wheat from the diet sends you into a tail spin, then you are not alone. We have grown up eating white bread, toast, sandwiches, white flour cakes and cookies. Wheat is in pretty much everything premade for us, and in all honesty, most people buy premade, microwaved meals these days. Wheat is in muffins, wheat is in microwaved meals, wheat is in sauces. You name it, the product likely contains wheat if man has anything to do with it. Weetbix, cereals, buns, wraps…

Our grandparents ate wheat. There was nothing wrong with them?!!

Our parents ate wheat, there was nothing wrong with them?!!

Really? Is cancer really an hereditary disease?-That has been proven wrong on so many counts. What could it be? Could the food we are eating be a contributing factor….?? Could it ? Is food a common denominator? Food? I mean- we all eat food. And we all drink water. If wheat is ever more prevalent in the foods we eat, more so than ever beforecould it possibly be worth investigation? Start investigating for yourself…today.

But why pick on wheat? It is true that 40 years and more ago, people ate wheat regularly. But what has happened to the innocent little wheat in the late 40 years is nothing less than atrocious. More people need to be made aware of the gross genetic modification that began taking place only 40 years ago, and continued until only just recently without you or I being any the wiser. Genetic Modification without examining the effect on human consumption. Producing wheat that grows smaller, faster, and closer together. Wheat that is resistant to toxic chemicals and companies such as Monsanto owning strains of now ‘supergrain and super wheat’ resistant to their own pesticides and chemicals; designed to kill all other seeds in their path. As well as contaminating farmer’s land either side of ground owned by Monsanto, them bullying small authentic farmers into submission through lawsuits and loss of revenue, and blatantly spraying other fields with their genetically designed chemicals, pesticides and herbicides. Literally poisoning the land and people.

Start to do your own research and find out why our grandparents could eat wheat; but why we are now crazy to allow it in our homes, let alone eat the stuff- in whatever form it comes in.

It is actually not that hard to get wheat out of the diet. At first, it may seem overwhelming; but doesn’t everything new seem overwhelming at first? Take it one step at a time. The ball starts rolling pretty quickly and it can become a whole heap of fun experimenting with food again. Not to mention how fantastic a person feels when wheat is removed completely from the diet! A little creativity is needed- but then again we now have google, instagram, pinterest, facebook and loads of other sites where you can google wheatfree recipes!

As opposed to having the mentality that we are missing out- flip it! Start to ponder on the exciting options that start to unfold when we take wheat out of the diet and replace it with wholefood filled with nutrition! The options are endless! All it takes is that imagination moving into first gear, and some visits to different cafes to get ideas! If you are on the coast try MarieAnita’s and The Paleo Cafe– both in Burleigh.

When we choose wheat free, we can still eat all our favourite recipes- we just throw out the wheat and substitute in wheat free options! And here is one of my favourites!!

Mouthwateringly delicious….PIZZA!!

wheatfree pizza

I have used mozzarella cheese in my recipe. As a celiac I cannot tolerate the poor excuse for a beverage- milk – sold from the shops. Research cows milk and start understanding how nutritionally devoid pasturised cows milk is…-Make your own informed decision here too. You might opt to stop drinking milk from cows also- but one step at a time ;).. I can enjoy a little hard cheese as a celiac as lactose content is not so high. If you want to know a great and easy healthy alternative to cows milk- HERE is a recipe for how to make your own nut mylk. Easy. If you can find raw milk- usually sold at markets or the organic shop- get that. Raw milk is the real mccoy.

The base for my pizza is made from cauliflower, predominantly. I kid you not and please dont knock it till you try it. We have to give stuff a go before we turn our nose up- give it a go! I didnt believe how amazing this was going to turn out! It was a hit! Noone knows what its made of unless you tell them! Tell them after!

What you need to make it work:

  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 3/4 cup virgin coconut oil (never olive oil as you are going to cook it)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups shredded mozarella cheese
  • Your favourite pizza toppings- go wild! spinach, onion, fresh herbs, meats, nuts, pineapple, capers, anchovies, sundried tomatoes, capsicum, garlic, mushrooms- use loads of colour! …. the list goes on.
  • Tomato paste. You can buy it but make sure you buy a clean tomato paste like Leggos. Use one canister- or two if you really like a tomatoey flavour Alternatively you can use a delicious pesto (homemade preferably too) for a more nutty pizza.
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese.

What to do to:

  • Preheat oven to approx 120C-140C.
  • Blend the cauliflower head in a powerful blender. I use a vitamix. If you do not have a blender- you can cook the cauliflower in water. But the issue here is you lose most of the good nutrients in cooking however it an option for people without blenders.
  • The vitamix with break the cauliflower up into a wet mush; mash if you have cooked it.
  • In a bowl add the cauliflower with 1/4 cup coconut oil, eggs and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese; season with Himalayan salt, pepper and any herbs you might like in your crust. I often use cayenne pepper to aid with thermagenic digestion.  Mix until it is blended with no chunks.

pizza base

Lightly coat a pizza pan or large rimmed baking sheet with coconut oil.

Pour the cauliflower mixture onto the pizza pan. This is the base for your pizza. Press it into a pizza base not more than 2 cms thick. Mould the edges higher to form a thick crust pizza. I’m a thin crust pizza girl but try this with this style first, before you go all thin on me. Trust me. :)

pizza base

Bake for approx 20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown:

wheatfree pizza base

Remove pizza base from the oven and start to decorate as you would a pizza from the shops or made from home! ie with all your favourite ingredients!

  • Start with your pizza base. Use the tomato base, pesto base or whatever base you like for your pizza. I used a traditional tomato base for this pizza- and used the leggos tomato paste.
  • While the pizza base was browning you could have been cooking up any meats, browning nuts, sauteeing onions and garlic- if you like those on your pizza so they are ready to just add once the pizza base is ready.
  • There are no rules to pizzas- add the ingredients you love.

wheatfree pizza.

I used baby spinach, sauteed onions and garlic, sliced mushroom, celery, pepitas and sunflower seeds, capsicums, fresh pineapple- pretty much whatever was in my fridge at the time. Loads of greens. If you are not a cheese fan- you don’t have to add all that cheese- I often have cheese free pizza – on the topping. In the base it is necessary to bind the cauliflower. Keep that in mind :)

Pizzas are meant to be messy and fun! SO make them fun!

wheatfree pizza.

This is a fun pizza to me!

To make it even more crazy loco….

wheatfree pizza

I add poached free range paprika chicken, cayenne pepper, the remaining mozzarella cheese, fresh oregano and chives from my balcony garden, H salt, pepper and drizzle with some- not all- of the coconut oil. Just use what you think necessary. The oil is for browning. You don’t need it all.

Tip- add less cheese on top;  and add more if you think you need it once it starts melting. We can always add, we can’t remove once its on and melted. Nothing worse than a typical American style over cheesed pizza. Gross.

Pop pizza back in the oven and bake until the mozzarella melts. Approx 10-15 minutes. Voila. Heaven by pizza!

Guilt free, delicious pizza!

Have you even wondered why some people can eat an entire family sized pizza from the pizza shop and still be hungry?

It is actually not that uncommon. Why. The pizza base from a traditional pizza is wheat based. Wheat is now devoid from any beneficial nutritional content for human beings. We are overfed and undernourished which is why so many of us are getting fatter and fatter, but we are still hungry…we are  undernourished. We think that if we eat MORE we will feel full. We wont- if we keep eating that stuff they call ‘food’ out there. Most if it is wheat based. We will still feel hungry, we will still eat more, and we will still grow fatter and fatter if our choice in food types does not change.

It can be as simple as swopping our ingredients. It is not that hard- we just need someone to show us.

wheatfree pizza

I hope I have shown you an option for pizza that will blow your mind and taste buds! My 120kg fiance can eat 2 family sized pizzas from the pizza shop in one sitting. He could only finish three pieces of this pizza before we was chocker block full.!! The difference here is that this pizza is made from ‘wholefoods’. Wholefoods are foods that are made largely without man messing with them. So these foods have the nutritional content that our bodies crave. We dont feel heavy and lethargic after eating wholefoods. We feel satiated, and great! We feel energised! Food is supposed to be our fuel- why are we filling up on the cheapest, poorest quality fuel- not designed to run our motors, nor feed or bodies or minds.

This pizza is exploding with flavour and goodness and total yumminess that you just won’ t believe it till you try it! Your body will love you for it and your mind will wonder how it is possible!

Many of my followers are vegan or vegetarian- so omit the animal ingredients and adapt the recipe to suit your dietary requirements. We are all looking for health. We can all learn from each other. Please feel free to play with this recipe; to share it; to adapt it; and definitely let me know what yours turned out like!

If you would like to have my personal wheat-free weight-loss plan; send me an email at I will share my 7 day fat-loss wheat-free (low sugar) plan with you for just  $97.00 Aus.

I eat pizza. I dont miss out. I’m lean. I’m fit. I’m filled with energy.

You could be too!!

Feature Cafe: Marie Anita’s. BURLEIGH

by Vashte on March 24, 2014

Gluten Free Health Cafe- Honest Flavours, Healthy Foods

Marie Anita's

For some time now I have been frequenting the Burleigh Head markets on a Saturday morning. Here, local farmers sell their produce; some chemical and spray free, some organic, others full blown use of sprays and pesticides. Find your true locals! They are there- search them out and get to know them. Friendly bunch they are :)

If you read my blogs you will notice I favour certain people, with certain wares. I especially favour Bryn and Colin from Raw Connections; and Marie and Maz. This post is dedicated to Marie and Maz. I fell in love with these ladies from the outset; and their sugar free, gluten free coconut muffins :) And NOW … little to my surprise I know for sure that they are MORE than sugar free, gluten free coconut muffins!! Marie always sold her beautiful sorghum gluten free breads at the markets and an array of other sugar free, gluten free treats. They would usually sell out. Very special, her food. Why? Well when someone has a genuine passion about what they do- it shows. And so it tastes… A- MAZING!!

It turns out I was not the only avid fan of this little stall. When they weren’t at the markets I was sorely disappointed- often travelling from my home in Budds Beach just to go get a muffin!! It is not often I can find quality like this. She uses pure, clean ingredients, without the over load of sugar. Often ‘gluten free’ means removing the wheat but substituting with poor quality ingredients and packed to the brim with fillers and sugars. Beware of poor quality ingredients. I cant stand it.

Not Marie’s food. Her food is clean, fresh and exactly what it says it is.

And now… she has opened her own cafe!!! She is no loner at the markets- she is farrr to busy in the cafe!! YAY!!! Marie Anita’s is now located directly opposite the markets on the Gold Coast Highway. It is a cute location on the corner of First Avenue and GC Highway. She opens for breakfast and lunch. It is cute. It is fresh. It is quirky. It is wholefood. It is clean eating. It is delicious!!!! She opened in February and I only just made it for the first time this past weekend. I have been missing out!

Marie Anita's Renovations

The Gold Coast is severely lacking in honest, clean, wholefood cafes. This one fills a big part of that space.

All meals are fresh, mouthwateringly delicious, clean, and made from local produce. Awesome. There is a ZERO  tolerance to artificial ANYTHING at this cafe. What a refreshing breath of fresh air! I am so sick of companys, people, cafes, calling themselves what they are not. The meals here are made with love and care, and it shows. You can feel it. You can taste it. Finally a personal, honest space where people can come to dine in a relaxed atmosphere, knowing without a shadow of a doubt that the food presented is truly good for you; or just grab a (healthy, delicious gluten free, low sugar) meal or the run, coffee on the run.. whatever.

Marie Anita Coffee

  • A cafe specialising in artisan baking- without the gluten and sugars!
  • A cafe specialising in sugar free meals and treats; as well as providing dairy free, vegetarian, vegan and raw options.
  • Finally a cafe that truly reflects ‘healthy eating’.  A cafe not just using the term for trend’s sake, but a cafe with owners and operators who work IN the space, who create from that passion, and produce meals worth writing home about!

If you are a bread lover and have given up bread due to gluten intolerance- head down here to buy Marie’s freshly baked sorghum gluten free bread. Your body will love you for it. You don’t have to miss out. But you do need to get the right kind of food in. This could be the place where you are finally introduced to healthy eating, without missing out! Healthy food is not boring! Let Marie Anita’s prove that to you.

I’m a massive fan, always have been, always will be and I will definitely be frequenting this place to eat, drink and just hang out. It is a long way for me to go in relative terms for breakfast, but I’m very specific about the food I put in my body. So this is where I’m going to eat.  I like good food that doesn’t result in my feeling tired, sick or half dead. HERE is their website. Check it out!!

Marie Anita's menu

I had breakfast here. It was divine. My mouth was watering over the menu. So clean and fresh!! It was hard to choose- but it doesn’t matter matter -I will be back to work my way through it. All of it!

Marie Anita’s café is just one street back from the beach so if you are a coffee drinker, pop down for a beautiful coffee- have in or take out. Stop by as you drive through to Burleigh. Parking on Gold Coast Highway so you can run in and grab a takeaway! GOOD coffee, hard to find on the Coast…  It is here. If you are like me and drink tea or smoothies- then choose from a variety of fresh teas, or delicious green and fruit smoothies. …Have some breakfast; brunch or book in for lunch! Guaranteed you wont be disappointed!!!

The only thing I am disappointed about is they are not open or dinner!! lol But I will let them off- they are open 7 days a week from 7 am to 5pm. I think they are working hard enough.

Meet me here for a tea/coffee/smoothie… or delicious gluten free, sugar free treat!!! Raw or baked- they do it all!!!

My breakfast was delicious: eggs, baby spinach, asparagus and  zesty homemade hummous on lightly baked pumpkin. No bread- the pumpkin served as bread. WOW.

breakfast with Marie Anita

Craig made his own meal up- another added bonus is the flexiblity of the chef. Some places will not allow changes to menus. He had eaten but still couldnt resist the temptation of Marie Anitas clean food! He LOVED the bacon.

I make a smoothie pretty much every day. If not for myself, then for my fiance. We find that as much as we love food, time does not always allow preparation for a healthy meal, or we are just too pooped after a long day. So a smoothie will suffice as an evening meal- or any meal throughout the day. This one is particularly indulgent and perfect for those days when you are hankering for that little something sweet.

When I chose to eat healthy, that did not mean going without. Quite the opposite in fact. I used to starve myself of so much before I came to an understanding that food is purely a fuel source, and I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want, so long as I balance my days appropriately. Exploring different styles and ways of preparing food has been very much an eye opener, and continues to prove so. Little gems of knowledge picked up at different stages fall into place, and often old beliefs are changed as more and more makes sense, the more I play with my food.

I chose to share this recipe today as I have have two people ask from instagram for the recipe- the second one using the magic word.. so I will now happily provide my recipe.  Old fashioned girl that I am :) I also thought I would share for a friend of mine : Russell – who is rather squeamish at my green concoctions likening them to swamp scum. Fair enough I suppose but those green smoothies are my personal preference. This smoothie is only ever a once in a while for me. Give me green smoothies any day!!!

This is a great chocolate smoothie to be loved by all ages and all palettes :) It could be a great bridge proving to disbelieving friends and family that healthy is not flavourLESS!!! I have a load of raw choc mousse recipes here as well- keep in mind that just because something is ‘raw, all natural, gluten free, etc etc’ doesn’t mean you can go to town on them. Always listen to your body and stop eating when it tells you that you are full. This can be a learning curve for many. But you will get there. When we stop eating with óur eyes’and becoming more aware of what our bodies actually desire; then we are truly on the way to complete wellness.

Have fun in your wellness journey and enjoy this beautiful treat:

What You Need:

  • 100 mls almond mylk. Preferably home made, but it is available from the shops if you are starting out on this new way of eating!
  • 1/4- 1/2 avocado ( makes the smoothie deliciously creamy in texture and stops the release of sugar into the blood stream from being too fast.
  • 1 banana – frozen gives a great texture but fresh is fine too.
  • 1 Tbspn  of good quality cacao. The quality of your cacao powder will directly determine the richness of your mousse. Look for a deep, dark, rich cacao powder.
  • 1 Tbspn cacao nibs.
  • A few cashews.
  • 1-2 dates for extra sweetness
  • a pinch of Himalayan salt
  • 1/2 scoop pea protein, unflavoured. You can use chocolate but MAKE SURE there are NO artificial sweeteners – including 995; sucralose; maltidextrin. I am not a fan of powdered protein. IF I ever use it, it is pea protein only. Ditch the whey isolate and concentrate. Many bodies find it DIFFICULT to absorb, results in inflammation, and can be toxic. Despite all the clever marketing out there. Once we add a powdered protein to a food or have it as a drink- this is no longer considered a ‘whole food’. Man has denatured a natural product- there is nothing natural about powdered protein so lets just get real and honest about that. So just to completely aware of what you are putting into your body and …do your own research!! It pays off in the end, and we can make more educated and wise decisions based on what we ‘know for ourselves’ as opposed to what other people tell us- including me. :)
  • Ice

Blend all in a high powered blender. I use the Vitamix- you can use any blender so long as it is high powered and creates a smooth, creamy texture. This recipe should be thicker consistency, to be eaten with a spoon. Add more mylk if you need it to make it that mousse-like consistency when it is too thick. Always add less to start and add as you go.

I served my mousse with a sprinkle of cacao nibs and bee pollen. I like to mix them into my mouse for a combination of texture when eating a mousse.

Let me know what you think PLEASE!!!!!

The Energiser

Follow me on instagram for loads of delicious recipes and pictures. Click HERE to follow!

I see you guys are LOVING my recipes :) Especially the smoothies!! Would you like an ebook??? Comment below to encourage me!!!!

I made this today to get me through the day. And it will! Not only is it packed with nutrients, but it is delicious as all my smoothies are. It is all natural, and there are no nasties added. Further to these awesome points- it is made in a matter of minutes so- hammering home my age old adage of ‘healthy fast food’. Why wouldn’t you?!

I chose today to reduce the amount of solid food I ate. Something similar to an intermittent fast, without going completely without. I find that my body likes to take a break from solid food every now and then, so to nourish it and keep it energised, a smoothie like this one is perfect. After my acupuncture session today I learnt exactly why my body likes this kind of eating! It all makes sense!! When we listen to our bodies, we can fall into good habits that heal these bodies naturally. It absolutely helps (and is neessary) to connect with people who are educated and learned in healing- such as accuncture – so that we (I) can speed up the healing process as opposed to missing the mark just a little and falling back on old practices. Make sense?!

So this smoothie was my morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack today. It is filled with great nutrients so I’m not missing out, nor am I hungry as I have so much else to do today anyway. My focus is on getting stuff done! Not food.

The Energiser consists of:

  • Water from a young Thai coconut. Not the packaged coconut water but the fresh, real mccoy young thai coconut water. Keep the flesh for another smoothie- or throw it in this one if you don’t think you will make another in the next 24 hours. Either way I use fresh coconut for hydration and electrolytes.
  • A handful of fresh organic kale. Kale needs to be organic as this vegetable is one of the most sprayed vegetables from ‘regular’ farms. It is better to go without than use kale bought from supermarkets. Try to avoid as many toxins as you can. Kale contains lutein, an antioxidant that protects against macular degeneration (loss in eyesight).  It is also rich in beta-carotene, Vitamin C and E as well as folate. Folate helps prevent heart disease and birth defects. Great if you are planning on pregnancy. Kale contains calcium and magnesium to help maintain strong bones, as well as is high in omega-3 fatty acids- the fats that can help you slim and stay young looking.
  • A handful of organic spinach- same reason for organic as above. Spinach is a great source of iron (most Western Women as lacking iron); folate, and also helps prevent macular degeneration.
  • 1/4 avocado. I love avocados as they contain the good fats which actually aid weight loss, keep us young looking and add a delicious creamy texture to smoothies. You HAVE to try them in your smoothies!!
  • Pea Protein – I don’t often use a powdered protein as I am no longer a fan. Any powdered protein is not a ‘wholefood’ so remember that. It has been manufactured by man so is not as readily bio-available as a wholefood source is- which is anything made by God, with no interference by man). Pea protein is vegan, has a high alkalinity reading (the only powdered protein to provide alkalinity to the human body. ALL other powdered proteins are acidic, especially whey); and is, of the powdered proteins, the most readily bio available for the human body- remembering this is less bio available than a wholefood. But sometimes I like it to add to my meals if I know I am not going to eat throughout the day, or that my protein intake will be low.
  • 1 Tablespoon Cacao Powder – yum. Cacao is used to add delicious flavour and to provide magnesium- which many people in the Western World are lacking.
  • 1-2 Medjool dates – I don’t often use dates in food I make for myself. Dates have a very high GI level- meaning the sugar is released into the body at a faster rate than the speed of light. Well, not entirely but something like that. I am highly susceptible to sugar, and will break out just by looking at anything high GI. Dates are not my friend, and I am not a friend of dates. When I do add dates, or sugars, I will add them with proton (ie in this case pea protein); or/and good fats (avocado). These both slow the release of the sugars down so help in avoiding a blood sugar high and low, by the slow release of the sugars. It is important to understand how different foods work together so we don’t have to miss out on the things we think we like! It is all chemistry, and easy to understand once you start!
  • 1 banana – Bananas will thicken up a smoothie also contributing to the creaminess; but more importantly they are a great source of potassium. Potassium is an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function and can aid in the release of our happy hormones – like serotonin. If you are felling blue, go and eat a banana. 😉
  • Ice to cool it all down.

– I keep my fruit frozen as I can’t eat it all fast enough before it becomes overripe and spoils. When the fruit is frozen, this will aid in thickening smoothies up and keeps the smoothie nice and chilled. Add ice if you like them super cold. I like them super cold.

-All smoothies can be made into ‘mousse’ or ‘icrecream’ the texture of a Mr Whippy. Just add less water.

-A good note-to-self is: add less of everything. If you need more of something, you can always add it to get that perfect flavour, as opposed to adding too much of an ingredient. It is impossible to get an ingredient out once its all blended! Make sense for you out there?!

Then blend!!! Make it thick or smooth- however you like your smoothies!! Perfect meal in a glass and ALL good for us!!! YUMMO!!!

Summer Berry Smoothie

by Vashte on December 6, 2013

Enjoy this berry smoothie in Summer. Packed with goodness, antioxidants, alkalising, raw, delish. Smoothies are mega easy to make, refreshing in the heat of Summer, and filling. The entire family loves them and if you have children- you can pile in goodies without them even knowing it! Smoothies beat a milkshake hands down every time! smoothies

My smoothies contain no dairy, no added sugar, no gluten, no artificial sweeteners or ingredients and always safe local ingredients.

It is best to buy from your local farmers markets if you can. There are less chemicals, and you can connect with your local communities supporting smaller companies. Commercial farming practices generally use huge amounts of toxic chemicals and sprays; as well as genetically modified seeds- none of which are good for us. In fact, many people, myself included, believe substances like these are major contributors to terminal illnesses like cancer and autoimmune disorders. Having lived through losing my partner when he was just 38 years old to cancer, I am very aware of the lies being sold and peddled to you and I, the consumers.

We have the buying power to stop this misinformation from being spread- but likely only for a short time as large corporations are working hard to close down individuals from free speech in the health industry. So take action NOW. Your money is what talks to them. If we all choose to buy from local farmers who are organic and/or sprayfree- the price of these items will come down as demand increases. Conversely demand will drop for the toxic foods peddled at supermarkets so the big guys have to get on board with organic, healthful foods. WE control THEM- Through our money. When we choose organic and natural- our immune systems become stronger and we no longer fall ill as easily = So fewer visits to the doctors, less reliance on pharmaceutical drugs (all of which have side effects, suppress the immune system and stress other important internal organs etc etc etc.) = we save money on REACTING to illness by not getting sick!!

Yes, We may spend more money on food but less on doctors, hospitals, drugs, illness. Doesn’t it make more cents to you 😉 to live longer, healthier, carefree lives? Imagine a life without the prediction that 1 in 2 people will develop cancer; where children are expected to outlive their parents; where it is normal for children to be born with or develop ADD, autoimmune disorders, allergies, and terminal illnesses. Doesn’t it make sense to look to our food as a possible remedy to some, if not all, of these present day issues? Please remember food is designed to be the fuel for the body- just like petrol to a car. What happens when you put diesel into a car requiring gas? It malfunctions. Why are our bodies any different? God did not make these bodies with the intention for us to fuel them with processed, frozen, ready-made sugar-laden microwaved meals. If we put dead food in, why are we expecting our bodies to do anything other than …die Faster. Painfully before an acceptable life span of  80 YEARS MINIMUM.

Perhaps we might like to change our perspective. Drop the poverty mentality. The ”lack-of ” mentality. Drop the dependence on pharmaceutical drugs. If we get a head ache- that is usually a sign we are dehydrated as the brain is swelling and pressing against our skull. Simple.  So ask a simple, logical question- have I been drinking water today? What type of food have I eaten? Have I had enough sleep? Is my food living, or is it dead- could it be causing my body to dehydrate as it overworks trying to eliminate the poisonous food I chose to et today? What pharmaceutical drugs am I taking… and just go drink a couple of glasses of filtered water and keep doing that all day, every day.

Food for thought? I hope so.

Anyhoo.. smoothies rock. Especially at this time of the year. I like to jazz them up and throw in as many or as little ingredients as I have in the pantry. There are no rules. Aside from making them taste delish. Smoothies are live foods, usually packed with goodness. And great for when you are running short of time- even better as a desert option when other people choose to stuff their faces with lower class foods. :)

This one is mega simple:

Strawberry Smoothie

– berries are in season- its December- go nuts and enjoy them! smoothies

  • 200mls almond milk
  • filtered water
  • ice
  • 1 cup strawberries- any berries you like.
  • 30 gm pea protein ( from vital greens)
  • 1 tablespoon l-glutamine
  • Blend! If you want your smoothie sweeter, try stevia but the more you DONT use a natural sweetener, the faster your palate will adjust and you will enjoy the natural sweetness of organic fruits. Ditch the sugar addiction.

Fresh Fruit and Mint with Coconut Cream and Chia

by Vashte on November 20, 2013

wholefoods- sugarfree – glutenfree- weightloss – fatloss- raw- healthy eating

Fruit Salad, Chia and Coconut Delight

The food I post is designed to be easy, nutritious and wholesome. I believe in health from the inside out, which is the exact opposite to the way the world is focused. Many people today ‘look’ healthy but just as you don’t judge a book by its cover, neither do you judge the health of a human being by the ‘look’ you are presented with. So many people I know ‘look’ the part but are carrying illnesses you would never dream possible. Many people ‘look’ the part, but when they get home they are tyrants and awful to live with as they insist on starving themselves to maintain the body everyone ‘thinks’ is desirable.

You may be aware I lost my then partner to cancer in 2011- and he was well known on the Coast as a teacher in natural health and supplements. He ‘looked’ the part, but he carried a deep dark secret that you would never know by ‘looking’. Quit the façade people!! Get real and get healthy from the inside out. I am an advocate for health; realistic health; healthy living- mind, body and spirit. Health is not rocket science; but it is facing up to your truths, your reality and not sweeping them under the carpet for vanity’s sake, or any other sake.

One Life Live it Well.

We NEVER get today back. So lets make our ‘todays’ count.

To make this simple, easy, healthy meal all you need is fresh stuff! It is worth buying organic where you can. Pesticides, insecticides, genetically modified foods, chemicals …all contribute to cancer, auto immune disorders and a plethora of other dis-eases we DO NOT have to live with, nor tolerate. Go back to living as much like our grandparents did as we can, and we may well see a marked improvement on our very own health, as well as turn the life expectancy of our children back around to actually outlive parents. Yes, the children being born today are expected to pass away before the parents. We are killing our own children. So lets be part of STOPPING THAT DISGUSTING STATISTIC- WHO IS WITH ME??

That means taking some time and thinking about the foods we eat, and where we get those foods. Yes, it may take a little thought effort. Throw away your microwaves for a start. Make your meals from scratch. Whilst this may sound horrific to some, perhaps many of you once you give it a go, you may astound yourself- as I have astounded myself!! If you had asked me 5 years ago if I knew what a kitchen even WAS … I would have told you in no uncertain terms a kitchen was a waste of space in a house!!! So if I can change- so can you. I am here to give you hope!!! :)

Fruit Salad:

Apples– you must know what they are! I have a favourite apple supplier from my favourite local farmers markets in Burleigh. He has incredibly crispy apples- and the best ever free range eggs. Definitely recommended if you are on the Gold Coast!! Apples will keep you full as they are high in fibre, and therefore will aid in passing solids; alternatively you can choose to run 10km every day to help keep things moving. I know what is easier and tastier 😉 An apple.

Pomegranate– in season now- they are the ‘passionfruit’ to any fruit salad, or green salad- they go with anything. Packed full with anti-oxidants and have a heavenly taste!

Fresh mint – buy it or better still, grow your own. I live in an apartment with searing heat from the sun. Mint is resilient. If I can not kill mint, you wont be able to either! Grow it and add it to any meal you like! I love it with my apples. It freshens any meal, salad- green or fruit. Yum!

You can add any fruit you like to a fruit salad. What do you like? Add your favourite fruit and you have a fruit salad. This fruit salad is not too high in natural sugars (fructose). Sifferent fruits contain different natural sugar levels. if you don’t like too much sweetness and sugar, stick with my simple salad.

I added a little cereal to my fruit salad- just a sprinkling for texture. I am not a fan of cereal but when I do have it, it is always gluten free. The best cereals are seeds only- I don’t eat many grains as my body does not like them glutenfree or not. I have found many people to be the same and many have difficulty processing grains. If you love your cereals- try the seed only cereals. You will not need to eat as much as they swell and expand. These are generally easier to digest.

Coconut, Chia Milk/Mousse.

I have also taken most dairy out of my diet. The exception of late being Greek Yoghurt. I took dairy out as I experience bloating and lethargy after eating it- indicating an intolerance. I get that from Greek Yoghurt too but for some reason of late, I have been permitting myself to eat it despite the consequences. That is weird. Many people put up with this every single day!?? Why??

Instead of dairy there are loads of alternatives. My favourite being Coconut Milk, water and cream; (use coconut oil to cook with). Old school thinking and teaching will have you believe these coconut products are ‘bad’ for you and will make you fat. Nothing could be more wrong. False advertising, misrepresentations of truths, and a lot of money being made by the companies propagating these lies through marketing has the general public believing these lies to be truths. Coconut products can be used and assimilated by the human body readily and easily. Dairy products cannot. Dairy products make me fat. Coconut products help my body release fat as I feed it food that I can use.

Maybe your body is somewhat similar to my adult human body. Food for thought?

How to Make Coconut and Chia Mousse/Dessert:

  • Simply buy a 400gm  can of organic coconut milk or cream from your local supermarket.
  • Add 3-4 tablespoons of chia. There are black or white- both are great.-can also be purchased from the supermarket! Chia is a ‘superfood’- meaning in everyday terms – really good for you and packed with bioavailable nutrients including antioxidants (good stuff!) Chia can also help keep you full as well as clean out unwanted toxins from places in the body they are hiding. Toxins like to hide, stick and stay. Chia are one of many natural foods which can help cleanse the body of such crap. Literally.
  • Mix both together. The chia will start to expand. If you leave the coconut and chia for 15 minutes it may become mousse-like; if you leave it for an hour it will definitely expand to make this viscosity.
  • Most people will like their milk/mousse to be sweeter. You can add raw honey to the mix to sweeten. Or choose stevia. Just add to your taste preference. Stevia is a natural sweetener that is said to be easier for the body to absorb without throwing blood sugar levels off. Again, I am not a fan- try to go sugar free as much as possible- but some days- you just really want something sweet. :)
  • Add to your fruit salad and enjoy your delicious meal!!

When the blood sugar levels in the human body are unbalanced, that is when you experience those ‘çravings’. Everything that you experience in your human body can be explained scientifically. Craving CAN be controlled with the help of a balanced diet. YOU can control your eating and what you desire to eat. Most self confessed chocoholics don’t think this to be humanly possible, but I have seen it time and time again. Everything is logical, everything has an explanation, sometimes we just need to get out of our own way to realise the truth.

Try to eat more and more ‘green, leafy’ foods first. Before you reach for the sugary snack. Once the body reaches a more alkaline state, we can become more capable and in control of our food choices as blood sugars stabilise.  Often we simply no longer ‘feel’ like eating sugary products- as if you never lived with these cravings in the first place. It is not ‘will power’; it IS biochemical- we are made up from chemistry and biology after all. Right?!

Enjoy xx
