Berry Mousse

Summer is right around the corner! If I wasn’t mistaken I would say it is here! Hot days are on the Coast already so I’m really bugging out to cooling, refreshing smoothies, mousse’s, and refreshing drinks of any kind!

These are great if you are looking to enjoy flavour, nutrients and fill up on healthy ingredients- not to mention can aid in weightloss, and fatloss when coupled with healthy nutrition, positive head space and a realistic exercise plan. Gone are the days of lettuce leaves and more lettuce leaves.

I can see you asking yourself the question- mm how do I make this mousse myself?

It is easy – as are all my recipes. I’m not one for hanging in the kitchen long. Life is far to short to be tied to the kitchen sink. Yes, I like my tasty food and that means it is fresh, fast and deliciously healthy so I can get outside and enjoy the finer things in life! Like having fun!

This recipe is perfect for anyone. Adults, children, people wanting to lose weight, people wanting to gain weight. You just need to know how to manipulate the ingredients to suit your cause.  This recipe I am about to share with you is great for weightloss/fatloss  when on a nutritional programme designed for such a thing. Children can enjoy this anytime of the day- and will love it, keeping them nutritionally satisfied and very happy! It is a suitable and great way to start the day for anyone on the run but wanting to help balance out blood sugar levels.

I do not have sugar or honey in my cupboard. The fruit available contains enough sweetness for me, but for many, this can be a big jump so to bridge the gap here is what I suggest: Throw away all white and brown sugar and never buy it again. To help get over the sugar addiction withdrawal symptoms and onslaught of change on your taste buds, you can use rice bran syrup instead or perhaps stevia for a short time. Both are natural sweeteners but each time you add these to your foods, use less and less. We get enough natural sugar from our foods, but Ias the great majority of us live in a sugar laced world- without even realising it lets take the transition at your pace initially. You can break free, if you want to.

Berry mousse

What is in it?

  • Handful or two of fresh strawberries- use any berries you like. Frozen is ok too.
  • 1 banana
  • 100 mls unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 avocado (this is very important to make it mousse-like)
  • 1 teaspoon l-glutamine – helps to reduce sugar cravings
  • 2 tablespoons pea protein – unsweetened. Buy from bulk foods.
  • 3 pods of cardamon – just loving this flavour at the moment!
  • 1-2 teaspoons organic vanilla essence
  • 2 tablespoons soaked organic linseeds- this will aid digestion and facilitate movement 😉

How to make it work:

Place all ingredients in a powerful blender. Blend until think and creamy.


Vashte's Berry Mousse

If fresh berry mousse is not sweet enough for your palate at this stage in the game, add 1 teaspoon of rice bran syrup or stevia and blend again. Continue adding natural sweetener until you reach the desired flavour. Please do not add extra sweetener until you have tried your mousse. You will get to the stage when you do not wish to add sweetener if you continue to consume a diet consisting of mostly leafy greens salads/veges coupled with proton and good fats.

FREE Tips: 😉

  • Freeze this in popsicle moulds for a healthy, delicious, summer iceblock!
  • Only add a small amount of liquid (almond milk) to ensure a thick consistency. It is better for it to be too thick, this way to can add more liquid to make it more viscous. If it is too runny for a mousse you can serve is as a smoothie, or add another 1/4 avocado for more creaminess and thickness.
  • This is an ideal breakfast or lunch option for weightloss.
